Why are they charging for self-install???? If I recall, the self-install uses a mucked-up version of IE and sets a bunch of things you may not wish to have. I believe that you can connect to the modem directly and set the parameters.

My stepson has an RCA425 cable modem (one set); I'll email you the manual if you like.

I guess i will buy them a router rather than renting one...
especially since my daughter has a laptop.

My stepson has the aforementioned RCA425 cable modem and a WAP to connect a Ethernet-ed desktop and a wireless notebook.
