Dear folks-I sure hope you can help me. I am running win XP on a white box
computer using an Asus P4V8X-Mx mb. I'm not sure how much ram is in there.
My son, who built the computer took of for CA early today with all the disks
so I have no system disk. Problem is this. The machine will not boot to
windows. It goes as far as the splash screen for the mb and then it goes
black with a flashing _ about 3 lines from the top of the screen. I went
into the bios and checked to see that everything was ok. Enabled and
disabled some things and tried again-no good. I set it to boot from the HD
and that did not work. Then I went to another computer and copied the boot
ini file to a floppy. Tried again and that didn't work. Then I burned a cd
with all backup sys files from my other computer and tried again, setting
the boot drive to the CD drive. that didn't work. Then I put the CD that
came with the mb in and tried again-this time I got a command line to the A
drive. I went to the ms knowledge base and could not find anything that
corresponded to this problem. I then searched the list archives and still
could not find anything that pertains to this. I tried to figure out a
command that would get me to the C drive and into windows but so far no
luck. I keep getting either bad command, bad file name or no memory errors.
Can someone help me with the proper syntax from A to C drive and into the
windows GUI? The only thing I can think of that maybe caused this was before
I turned off the computer this morning I was fiddling with the network
preferences in utorrent and I forgot to re-check enable UPNP port mapping. I
don't know if this is revelent to the problem. any help would really be
greatly appreciated. TIA, bk
