It took me 9 months to get my long distance fixed when I tried to
leave the Monopoly of my local (very large) phone company...
(I kept defaulting to "the carrier of last resort" at two or three times
the highest tarif rate...)

Before going to take as far as a state's Attorney General, most likely
your problem may be due to a big clerical error on the part of Comcast
itself.
You should talk to the Accounts Payable manager voice to voice to
get this problem straightned.

Rich,
This is when you contact your state's Attorney General. Amazing how
fast things get done. You may also try the Better Business Bureau.

Verizon gets my vote.
Never established a connection, which they confirmed, but kept
getting bills for >6 months (can't remember how long now). They
_could not_ stop the bills. Spent hours on the phone telling the
same story.

I'm not sure who I hate more at this point, Comcast or Verizon...
