Vista is supposedly slower than XP & that's on top end machines. I would expect the gap to be wider on slower machines.

Vista is slower to "catch on" or become accepted for sure. XP handles most of the typical tasks that the majority of computer users perform and very well, if it is installed on a computer that performs well. Windows 9x was a drag and everyone knew it. Millennium gave very little in exchange for the more resources it required. This is not true of XP. The eyes of XP users with a high performance computer will not brighten at the thought of Vista like the eyes of Millennium users brightened when XP was offered.

I just built myself a new Pentium D (yes, it is a leftover that did not sell and now Core 2 Duo is the current CPU) computer and installed Windows XP Professional OEM on it. I know Vista is right around the corner. Ho hum! I am set for another 5+ years!
