I'd say that for games you aught to be looking at screen response time and 3D/lighting textures etc in the video electronics
For Photos it's a question of colour balance and pixels to match the images (when you've set the screen, can you get it to remember that setting - even better if you can have a viewing setting, and a second setting to show what the printout (on your printer, paper and ink) will look like) If you have a 10Megapixel, 32 bit colour picture (40Mb .bmp or even .raw mode) how much will you lose showing it on a 1280 x 1024 pixel screen at 24 bit colour (Remember that's the physical screen capability, not the specification you set for the video display (properties settings) within windows Will it worry you that each pixel of the screen is an aggregate of 8 pixels of the image or - that the image will have much more jagged shapes than the picture you took Then again - could you read the icon titles when running a better screen at 1600 x 1200 (physical screen and video display specification to Windows) Lots of larger screens still have the same electronics and number of display cells as the smaller ones - so what you get is more pronounced jagged edges, rather than more data - or better reproduction I notice that Gaffer doesn't say what the 22" Iiyama screen's physical resolution (dot pitch) is, or how good? his eyes are! My 19" screen is .20 dot pitch - and runs via a Nvidia Riva TNT 2 - 8, or 32 Mb - I don't remember which, but I was simply after 24, or 32 bit colour at 1600x1200 with no extra facilities - so it don't do 3D, but it does let me see the difference (just) between a, e and s in 6 point times new roman at 100% page view in MSWord JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Dykes" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 9:09 PM Subject: Re: Monitor Problem > When I opened the message, I found that Gaffer had written: > > > > > You have my sympathy Jim !
