Hello Winona:

My name is Tim Erickson, and I'm the list manager for the St. Paul Issues Forum (the equivalent of your list, but in St. Paul). I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Winona and attend a part of the January 30th meeting, during which the leadership transition was discussed.

I simply want to express my admiration for the work that your "community" has put into building a very valuable and unique online tool for citizen involvement in local public affairs. Steve Kranz has done some wonderful work and has an extraordinary vision for the potential of E-Democracy and has been a leader in this area beyond the boundaries of Winonia.

I hope that you are all aware, that Winona Online Democracy has been working with Minnesota E-Democracy for quite a while now and has built a reputation which extends beyond Minnesota. I have met researchers from Washington DC, Denmark, and as far away as Japan - who are studying the work that we are doing with online participation in Minnesota and the work that you are doing in Winona.

Steve has made some very valuable contributions in this area, but I was most impressed to see the degree to which Winona Online Democracy is really a "community" project. In my opinion, you are ahead of us in St. Paul in terms of building that kind of community support. But, we are catching up.

I look forward to working with Steve again sometime in the future and I look forward to observing the future growth and development of Winona Online Democracy.
