[Winona Online Democracy]

Is it any wonder it's difficult to get meaningful dialogue with a city council with a
"business rules" attitude typified by a member who says (in the days of Enron, World
Com, et. al)"the private sector always stresses to let free enterprise rule, to leave
business alone. Government has enough rules and regulations that impede us. Just get
off our backs---there is no way I'm going to go in and have government come in. That,
to me, would be totalitarianism".

The result of Mr. Mielimonka's thinking is that the biggest business has the freedom
to drive away all other businesses. Government regulation benefits the general public
only incidentally, the main reason it developed was to protect one business, or type
of business, from another. Ask the people of latin america how they like the
"totalitarianism" of bananas, coffee, tin, cattle, etc.

We need members of our city council concerned first about the citizens of Winona, not
the "rights" of the biggest business, if we don't that's who will decide the future of
Winona.
