I know, Russ! ... let's do both :o)

I have limited time in my day, as we all have, but a well considered forum
would permit topic segregation.

I deal with similar on www.gawds.org and our sibling Yahoo! list (which is
to me a complete bloody wind-up list but, as you comment, is appreciated by
many). It is practicable to incorporate both mechanisms.

I find the challenge with lists is the on/off topic demarcation and the
level of monitoring -- prompting your off-topic alert post.

Forums may be less immediately prominent by there very nature, yet I would
argue selectiveness isn't an issue with a well-visited and topical group
such as WSG. It's in everybody's interest to keep up to speed on current
events and issues.

Yes, we have discussed forums vs lists on several occasions. Each solution
has positives and negatives. The general consensus is that a forum is not as
effective for sharing and learning as a list - forums are more passive and
people are possibly less likely to go there unless they have a problem.

Lists are more immediate, and they do not require members to go elsewhere to
take part. The WSG list is living proof of this. We have an active list with
a fantastic bunch of knowledgeable people answering questions and having
interesting conversations.
