Hello Stitchers,
That is a great question. Before I started to xstitch, I did alot of
needlepoint. In the stores I would look at the xstitch patterns........so
many, sooooo beautiful. At first I found it a bit confusing to take a plain
piece of fabric and try to get the picture to appear correctly on the
fabric. I got frustrated at first and have since developed some methods so
I don't get lost while working the patterns. Now I am able to do very
complex patterns. In fact, I prefer very complex and large projects. To me
counted xstitch is like painting with floss and is a big part of why I love
it so much. I am not talented with a paintbrush or with sketching, but with
fiber I can express my artistic attributes quite well. The beauty of the
finished project as well as the challenge is why I love to xstitch. I love
to stitch when I am uptight, as it is a way to escape and be totally
involved with the pattern. Great therapy!
Now I have a questions and would appreciate your help and input. I am
getting ready to start James Himsworth's "THE PRINCE OF PEACE". I will be
giving it to my sister as a gift. I am planning to do it on 22 Aida. I
have several things I'm not sure about. (In the past I have never worked on
a 22, 18 Aida is the finest I've worked on to this point.) Some of the
background calls for using 3 strands to do half cross stitches. I know that
3 strands is obviously too much for a 22 Aida. I am concerned that using
only one strand will allow too much of the background fabric to show
through. I have thought about doing full xstitches instead or do you think
2 strands will cover adequately if I do just the half xstitch? The pattern
calls for using 2 strands for all of the other xstitches. One strand should
cover adequately shouldn't it? I know this may sound like I'm a total
dummy, but I want the project to turn out well and I am just inexperienced
with 22 Aida. I have several intricate patterns in the works, including
Theresa Wenzler's "PEACOCK TAPESTRY", Marty Bell's "MISS HATHAWAY'S COTTAGE"
and "WEPHAM COTTAGE", as well as "A CHANGE OF PACE" and "CHURCH STREET" by
Graphs by Barbara and Cheryl. All of these are being worked on 16 or 18.
TIA for all of your help.
Sure do enjoy this list. Happy stitching all.
Cilla
