i often equate the two, pain & suffering.  in particular, when
experiencing emotional pain.  who doesn't want affection & intimacy?
not having them is no fun.  not getting what you want is painful.

yet there is a distinction between pain & suffering, isn't there?  so
being saved from suffering is not the same as to be anesthetized from
pain.

pain is inevitable; suffering is optional.  deep down i don't want to
accept the former, & don't comprehend the latter...
