Re: [JAWS-Users] I E 11
Well, when I was having problems with I E, it wouldn't open for me and I had to reboot the machine to get to it. So maybe if I'd had the alternative method for getting past that first step, it would have helped. I prefer the run commands for control panel and internet options, they are: press windows plus R for the run edit box, as most of you know type control and press inter for the control panel type inetcpl.cpl and press inter for the internet options or properties. Hope it helps some. On 6/20/18, JM Casey wrote: > I think Steve was just making a recommendation. Re: [JAWS-Users] I E 11
I think Steve was just making a recommendation. It'll probably work equally well both ways, but if you're resetting something, it's best not to have that thing actually running while you're doing it, because some things can't be rest while they are operational. You know how when you install most programs a screen comes up telling you to close applications? That's why. There are dependencies and such that lots of programs have, and you won't be able to remove or change something on the system while it's in use. Rather than give you an error message about it, the program in question might just leave a bunch of junk cluttering up your system. So, it's just a sensible practice. Having said that, I do want to point out that Steve's search box method to get to the control panel still works best in Windows 10. The windows key--x menu, which I have forgotten the name of at the moment, at least on my Windows 10 machine, has a link to the settings app, but not control panel, though I guess it's possible to add this to the menu yourself if you want to. Despite Microsoft making promises about better integration, settings and control panel are still not integrated. I personally dislike the settings app so am happy control panel is still around. The original instructions worked beautifully for me except that I then had to turn sounds on and then I had to turn the volume up. I'd saved previous sets of instructions so I was able to do it but, with difficulty. At some point, for a reason unknown to me, I had to resign the agreement for use of I E 11. As you all know by now, this isn't my thing. Re: [JAWS-Users] I E 11
Does this happen only on certain websites? As someone suggested, you could try an earlier version of JAWS, or nVDA latest version even, and see what happens. But some already consider IE to be a "deprecated" browser. In my experience though, it doesn't crash so much as things just don't work right/links or certain parts of the page appear invisible using IE. So it might be something else particular to your system. Maybe if you give a site url that is giving you trouble, others on the list could try for themselves. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Miriam Vieni Sent: June 17, 2018 3:16 PM To: jaws users list Subject: [JAWS-Users] I E 11 With Jaws 2018 and Windows 7 on my 64 bit computer, I E 11 has begun to crash rather often. [JAWS-Users] I E 11
With Jaws 2018 and Windows 7 on my 64 bit computer, I E 11 has begun to crash rather often. I have to reboot the computer in order to get I E to work when this happens. Aside from learning to use a new browser, does anyone have any suggestions? Miriam For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] I E 11 changing what is filled in automatically on web page
Mike, Point taken. But I still think that banks and other websites can and do take control over whether usernames do or don't appear. I'm pretty sure that's the situation in Miriam's case. For the record, I still have that affiliation credit card with BofA, but I have no love for the institution. That said, if you ever get past Fortress Automated Phone System, the tech support people are terrific and, in my experience, comfortable talking accessibility. I hope anyone sitting on the fence takes to heart your decision not to allow your browser to retain personal data. However, just for that reason, I don't have my browsing history deleted each time I exit my browser because all any snooper would find is a list of the websites I visited. At least, I think that's the case. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. IE11 will autocomplete URLs (website addresses), if you want it to. It may even complete passwords, as Firefox offers to do. But I think the username on a bank website is different. It isn't filled in by IE, but by the website. For example, the bank that has one of my credit cards gives me the choice of being recognized when I visit the website or leaving it to me to fill in my username every time. Another bank website forces me to enter the username every time, which I personally think is a good idea with sensitive matters. Miriam, see what happens the next time you try to log in. If your previous username appears again, how about typing the password and seeing if you're logged in? Otherwise, it may be worth a call to the bank's tech support people. I ran into a similar problem with Bank of America a month or two ago. I'm still mystified why I suddenly had the problem, and I'm equally puzzled how it got resolved. Hi Miriam If you can tell us what is says in this box that popped up we may be able to assist you. Try and listen to what the popup is asking you to do then tell us the best you can and maybe we can help you. I think I know what box is coming up but I am not sure as you did not give me enough information.
