I DO know Jeff from Toronto. I often badmouth the United States, and then vacation there three times a year. I'm led to believe that some lazy ass unionized broom pusher who makes $30 an hour is underpaid and therefore must go on strike, but paying $10 an hour to someone who works 12 hour shifts at forty below on an oil rig is fair. I believe that paying $30 million for 3 stripes (The Voice of Fire) by the National Art Gallery was a good purchase, even though 99% of this country didn't want it, nor will ever see it. When I look at my pay stub and realize that I take home a third of what I actually make, I say "Oh well, at least we have better health care than the Americans" It must bail out farmers when their crops are too wet or too dry, because I control the rain. My National Anthem has versions in both official languages, and I don't know either of them. Greetings: I had posted the following request in October of last year in an attempt to obtain information on a research project that I was conducting on abductions and abuse. I was unable to continue with the project due to personal problems, computer problems and other problems to numerous to mention and am starting to conduct the research again. I believe that most of the so called alien abductions as we know them are not conducted by aliens, but by our own government for various reasons, including total mind control of the victim. I also believe that a lot of the victims of abductions are conducted on family members that started in the 60's and continues to this day. I also believe that Screen Memories and Electronic Dissalusion of Memory are being used to complete the abduction senerio with many of these people believing that they are being abducted by an actual UFO and actually are being taken to the location by any type of vehicle the government chooses to use. I believe that many of the abductees have various marks and bruises that if seen would be interperted as some form of abuse and these marks are hidden because of fear of the criminal justice system becoming involved in the case. I also believe that this is true with children, with parents not sending their children to school because of fear of the State getting involved and the children being taken away. This is all a form of electronic mind control that is being used against certain people in this country and other countries by a select group of people for their own personal gain. I am presently looking into a case where UFO's were involved and an allegation of child abuse arose and the man is now in jail. The child who was about 5 years old at the time made the statement "SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE VISITORS CHAIR" and abused. The man is in a Prison that he says is run by Wackenhut and beieve it or not there are also other residents within the prison who have had UFO encounters. The area that I am looking at is near a military base and the county in question has had a very high abuse conviction rate and also a very large number of UFO sightings in the past, and continuing to this day. Are these sighting, the abuse and the military all connected? If so, for what reason and why would these people who are convicted be placed in a prison that is run by Wackenhut Industries of CIA fame. I am very interested in obtaining information, positive or negative as to cases of abuse that involved an UFO abduction experience and what happened? These covert experiments must stop and we as citizens came only stop them with documented histories of the abduction that took place. I again would appreciate any information that anyone can forward me on these rogue black budget government programs that are abusing citizens everyday, such as the Army Security Agency before they were disbanned in 1976. For those interested in Crowley's connection to British Intell, at least in the WWI period, I humbly suggest you may want to look at my "Secret Agent 666: Aleister Crowley and British Intelligence in America, 1914-1918" in _International Journal of Intelligence and CounterIntelligence_, Vol. 13, #3 (Fall 2000), pp 359-371. The key point, perhaps, is that when American investigators took an interest in Crowley's association with suspected German agents, the British consul in New York, Clive Bayley, quietly came forward to assure the inquisitive Yankees that C's activities were known to and condoned by His Majesty's officials. Basically, C seems to have used to ferret out Irish-German links and as something of a literary provocateur. This does not necessarily mean that the claims of C and others of later and more extensive collaboration with British spookdom were true, but it certainly suggests that they may contain some truth at least. SOME Americans are ignorant- not stupid- but ignorant from lack of facts, being brainwashed by the tv. America is still better than a LOT of other countries to live in. My husband has traveled extensively with his job, and believe me, he is always glad to get home. For one reason, Americans are hated and despised by most of the world, they think that our government represents us (HA!) and that we want our government to come in and do the things that it does to their countries, ie., to them. It is heartbreaking. My 14 year old daughter was talking to me today, saying that her 16 year old friend is working minimum wage, and after taxes is actually making $2 an hour. My mind went to all the women struggling to make ends meet on that amount. I also thought of all the tax money, and where it goes. We would have no poverty if it all went back into this country. Heck, if they cut the taxes in half, and stopped giving to other countries, our government would still have more money than any other!!! I worry what will happen, and how it will end. Former contra gunrunner faces exposure charge Hasenfus in limelight again on accusation of exposing himself in busy parking lot By Lisa Sink of the Journal Sentinel staff Last Updated: Sept. 6, 2000 The celebrity he gained through run-ins with the Sandinistas and later the U.S. government a distant memory, former gunrunner Eugene Hasenfus now faces notoriety of another kind. The former Marinette Marine has been charged with exposing himself in a Kmart parking lot, the latest in a series of problems - from financial woes to divorce - that have dogged him in recent years. He was front page news in 1986 when he found himself at the center of the Iran-contra scandal after his plane was shot down by Nicaragua's Sandinistas. But as of late, Hasenfus has tried to keep a low profile. The Waukesha County assistant district attorney who wrote the criminal complaint confessed that he didn't know who Hasenfus was until informed by a reporter. Hasenfus, 59, now living in Milwaukee, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court with lewd and lascivious behavior on accusations of masturbating inside his pickup truck July 10 in a Kmart parking lot in the Town of Brookfield. A shopper returning to her car told police she saw a man exposing himself in his pickup, the complaint says. Hasenfus later told police that he stuck a construction-type glove over his license plate to hide it in case someone caught him, the complaint says. "I did this because I wanted to stay anonymous," Hasenfus wrote in his statement to police. But the shopper removed the glove and jotted down Hasenfus' plate number before he drove off, the complaint says. Hasenfus told police he went to the Kmart at 18200 W. Blue Mound Road about 11 a.m. and parked in a crowded area of the lot and masturbated, the complaint says. "The defendant indicated that he knows that his conduct was not appropriate, and he is sorry for it," the complaint says. "The defendant denies ever doing this type of conduct in other parking lots." If convicted of the misdemeanor, he would face a maximum penalty of nine months in jail. Hasenfus moved from obscurity to the limelight when he was shot down in Nicaragua and captured by the Sandinistas in October 1986. His fellow crewmen died in the crash. Hasenfus spent 73 days in a Nicaraguan jail after the U.S. government denied any knowledge he was running guns to the contras. The incident prompted a lengthy investigation into the involvement of the Reagan administration in a CIA-directed operation to arm the contra rebels with money obtained by secret U.S. arms sales to Iran. Many compared Iran-contra to the Watergate scandal that brought down Richard Nixon. Fourteen years later, the name Gene Hasenfus initially meant nothing to Assistant District Attorney Pablo Galaviz. Likewise, the 23-year-old police officer who took Hasenfus' statement also wasn't aware of his past. "I don't think she was aware of the connection," said Town of Brookfield police Lt. David Vischulis. "I personally didn't recognize the name until someone called on it this morning. That's a long time ago." Hasenfus did not return a call seeking comment. After his release from prison, Hasenfus returned to Marinette broke and bitter. He made the news last year for his role as an ironworker on the Miller Park project, but said at the time he only wanted to talk about construction, not contras. "I don't care to talk about myself per se, or why I'm here, the Gene Hasenfus story - none of that (expletive)," he said. A stadium board official said Wednesday that Hasenfus no longer worked on Miller Park but was unable to determine when he left the project. Hasenfus was never able to cash in on his involvement in the Iran-contra scandal. A year after his capture, he tried to court Hollywood executives into making a movie about his experience but nothing materialized. In 1996, the Clinton administration rejected his claim for $800,000 for injuries he said he suffered in the Nicaraguan plane crash. Hasenfus' wife filed for divorce in December 1998, and it was granted earlier this year. He has had minor scrapes with the law, including a September 1998 accident in which he turned left in front of a motorcycle and severely injured the female rider, who has since sued him. In 1996, he was arrested on charges of drunken driving, battery to a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, resisting and battery. He was convicted of drunken driving and misdemeanor battery and placed on probation for two years, state records show. How will Al Gore's selection of an Orthodox Jew as a running mate play out with the electorate? By choosing Dick Cheney rather than Pennsylvania's Roman Catholic governor, Tom Ridge, or New York's Catholic governor, George Pataki, did George W. Bush compromise his chance to woo the Catholic vote? Will evangelical Christians find Bush's references to Jesus Christ, or his proclamation of a "Jesus Day" in Texas, attractive? Will supporters of the separation of church and state find such talk upsetting? The answers are a lot more complicated than politicians and pundits seem to assume, for the role that religion plays in politics no longer follows the patterns established in the years after World War II. In the 1950's and 1960's, American social scientists were strongly committed to what was known as the "secularization thesis." The idea was put forth in one way or another by sociologists as diverse as Talcott Parsons and the young Peter L. Berger: As society became more modern, increasingly adhering to rationality and efficiency, old-time religious fervor, belief in miracles, and orthodoxy would begin to disappear. Religion would become, in effect, a sociological marker. If we knew, for example, that a person was Jewish, we would have a fairly good idea about his or her level of education (relatively high), political views (relatively liberal), and preferred place of residence (the suburbs). The secularization thesis really did explain, throughout the 1950's and 1960's, a good deal about religion. But as society changed, so did the ideas of social scientists who were interested in how religion was actually practiced. A seminal article in 1993 in the American Journal of Sociology, by the sociologist R. Stephen Warner, pointed to what the author called a "new paradigm for the sociological study of religion." Two features of that emerging paradigm help explain the role religion is playing in the 2000 presidential campaign. One is the idea that religion that demands strong ties of adherence is not incompatible with modernity after all. The other is the notion, associated with what is known as "rational-choice theory," that religion, even its demanding forms, survives not because people need to be linked together with groups, but because they wish to make their own decisions about the costs and benefits associated with specific beliefs. Consider, first, the Lieberman nomination. In the past, scholars often viewed Jews, among all the religious groups in the United States, as the most committed to modern ideals of equality and opportunity. It followed that Jews would tend to be liberals and would vote in large numbers for the Democratic Party. From the administrations of Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman through those of John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, that was true. Jews were liberal out of a strong conviction that Democrats stood for civil rights and tolerance, while Republicans belonged to those country clubs, graduated from those universities, and worked in those law firms that kept Jews out. Crucial to the pattern of Jewish political liberalism was the assumption of Jewish theological liberalism. It was considered as something of a given that most American Jews would eventually assimilate, either by marrying non-Jews or by joining Reform Jewish congregations that played down the specifics of faith. Many Jews in the years after World War II did just that, confirming the secularization thesis. Yet these days, Jews in the United States do not automatically conform to either political or theological liberalism. It continues to be true that Jews vote in high numbers, but ever since the 1964 nomination of Barry Goldwater, a conservative Republican whose grandfather was Jewish, Jews can no longer be considered reflexive liberals. Many American Jews who previously viewed the Democrats as the party of inclusion have reservations about its support for affirmative action, which reminds them of the quotas that once kept Jews out of universities. Some find support for Israel in the pro-defense policies of the Republicans. Along similar lines, Jews have not necessarily become more secular in the land of American plenty. In scholarly writings about modernity, the assumption that they would do so was premised on the idea that Orthodoxy, which was associated with European ghettos and the early immigrant experience in the United States, would disappear. Yet, far from disappearing, Orthodox Jews compose 10 percent of American Jewry today, according to Samuel G. A quarter of all the deaths on the planet now are caused by infectious diseases like Malaria, TB and AIDS. Because of AIDS alone, life expectancy in some African nations is plummeting by as much as 30 years. Without aggressive prevention, the epicenter of the epidemic likely will move to Asia by 2010 with very rapid growth rates also in the New Independent States. The affected nations must do more on prevention, but the rest of us must do more, too -- not just with AIDS, but also with malaria and TB. We must invest in the basics -- clean water, safe food, good sanitation, health education. We must make sure that the advances in science work for all people. The United States is investing $2 billion a year in AIDS research, including $210 million for an AIDS vaccine. And I have asked our Congress to give a tax credit of $1 billion to speed the development in the private sector of vaccines against AIDS, malaria and TB. We have to give the tax credit because the people who need the medicine can't afford to pay for it as it is. We've worked to make drugs more affordable, and we will do more. And we have doubled our global assistance for AIDS prevention and care over the last two years. Unfortunately, the U.N. has estimated that to meet out goals, we will collectively need to provide an additional $4 billion a year. We must join together to help close that gap. C. 20530 August 22, 2000 Dear Mr. : Thank you for your letter dated August 11, 2000, in which you question certain statements you understand to have been made by an attorney for the United States during oral argument before the Fifth Circuit in United States v. Emerson. Your letter states that the attorney indicated that the United States believes ³that it could take guns away from the public,¹ and restrict ownership of rifles, pistols and shotguns from all people.¹² You ask whether the response of the attorney for the United States accurately reflects the position of the Department of Justice and whether it is indeed the government¹s position ³that the Second Amendment of the Constitution does not extend to the people as an individual right.² I was not present at the oral argument you reference, and I have been informed that the court of appeals will not make the transcript or tape of the argument available to the public (or to the Department of Justice). I am informed, however, that counsel for the United States in United States v. Emerson, Assistant United States Attorney William Mateja, did indeed take the position that the Second Amendment does not extend an individual right to keep and bear arms. That position is consistent with the view of the Amendment taken both by the federal appellate courts and successive Administrations. More specifically, the Supreme Court and eight United States Courts of Appeals have considered the scope of the Second Amendment and have uniformly rejected arguments that it extends firearms rights to individuals independent of the collective need to ensure a well-regulated militia. See United States v. Miller, 307 U.S. 174 (1939) (the ³obvious purpose² of the Second Amendment was to effectuate Congress¹s power to ³call forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union,² not to provide an individual right to bear arms contrary to federal law²); Cases v. United States, 131 F.2d 916, 921 (1st Cir. 1942) (³The right to keep and bear arms is not a right conferred upon the people by the federal constitution.²); Eckert v. Her name is now invoked by a seemingly wide menagerie of united loonies from certain supposed British Anarchists, even Neo-Nazi wannabes, and the Fascist Far Right, who cover their activities with wordy "spiritual" nuances of which "goddess" Diana, "the huntress," is used as a moniker of sorts for their in desguise politico rants. Former contra gunrunner faces exposure charge Hasenfus in limelight again on accusation of exposing himself in busy parking lot By Lisa Sink of the Journal Sentinel staff Last Updated: Sept. 6, 2000 The celebrity he gained through run-ins with the Sandinistas and later the U.S. government a distant memory, former gunrunner Eugene Hasenfus now faces notoriety of another kind. The former Marinette Marine has been charged with exposing himself in a Kmart parking lot, the latest in a series of problems - from financial woes to divorce - that have dogged him in recent years. He was front page news in 1986 when he found himself at the center of the Iran-contra scandal after his plane was shot down by Nicaragua's Sandinistas. But as of late, Hasenfus has tried to keep a low profile. The Waukesha County assistant district attorney who wrote the criminal complaint confessed that he didn't know who Hasenfus was until informed by a reporter. Hasenfus, 59, now living in Milwaukee, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court with lewd and lascivious behavior on accusations of masturbating inside his pickup truck July 10 in a Kmart parking lot in the Town of Brookfield. A shopper returning to her car told police she saw a man exposing himself in his pickup, the complaint says. Hasenfus later told police that he stuck a construction-type glove over his license plate to hide it in case someone caught him, the complaint says. "I did this because I wanted to stay anonymous," Hasenfus wrote in his statement to police. But the shopper removed the glove and jotted down Hasenfus' plate number before he drove off, the complaint says. Hasenfus told police he went to the Kmart at 18200 W. Blue Mound Road about 11 a.m. and parked in a crowded area of the lot and masturbated, the complaint says. "The defendant indicated that he knows that his conduct was not appropriate, and he is sorry for it," the complaint says. "The defendant denies ever doing this type of conduct in other parking lots." If convicted of the misdemeanor, he would face a maximum penalty of nine months in jail. Hasenfus moved from obscurity to the limelight when he was shot down in Nicaragua and captured by the Sandinistas in October 1986. His fellow crewmen died in the crash. Hasenfus spent 73 days in a Nicaraguan jail after the U.S. government denied any knowledge he was running guns to the contras. The incident prompted a lengthy investigation into the involvement of the Reagan administration in a CIA-directed operation to arm the contra rebels with money obtained by secret U.S. arms sales to Iran. Many compared Iran-contra to the Watergate scandal that brought down Richard Nixon. Fourteen years later, the name Gene Hasenfus initially meant nothing to Assistant District Attorney Pablo Galaviz. Likewise, the 23-year-old police officer who took Hasenfus' statement also wasn't aware of his past. "I don't think she was aware of the connection," said Town of Brookfield police Lt. David Vischulis. "I personally didn't recognize the name until someone called on it this morning. That's a long time ago." Hasenfus did not return a call seeking comment. After his release from prison, Hasenfus returned to Marinette broke and bitter. He made the news last year for his role as an ironworker on the Miller Park project, but said at the time he only wanted to talk about construction, not contras. "I don't care to talk about myself per se, or why I'm here, the Gene Hasenfus story - none of that (expletive)," he said. A stadium board official said Wednesday that Hasenfus no longer worked on Miller Park but was unable to determine when he left the project. Hasenfus was never able to cash in on his involvement in the Iran-contra scandal. A year after his capture, he tried to court Hollywood executives into making a movie about his experience but nothing materialized. In 1996, the Clinton administration rejected his claim for $800,000 for injuries he said he suffered in the Nicaraguan plane crash. Hasenfus' wife filed for divorce in December 1998, and it was granted earlier this year. He has had minor scrapes with the law, including a September 1998 accident in which he turned left in front of a motorcycle and severely injured the female rider, who has since sued him. In 1996, he was arrested on charges of drunken driving, battery to a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, resisting and battery. It's amazing what a little redaction can do, so as to misconstrue and twist the argument in one's favor. If you read any of these cases cited here, in there entirety and pay particular attention to the words before and after the portions cited and check the citations within those cases, it becomes even more clear and blatent that the second amendement is an INDIVIDUAL right, and that this right as established by the court in Presser vs Illinois(1886) and Cases vs US(1942) and Eckert vs City of Philadelphia (1973). So wrote missionary John Johnstone in the 1850s as he traveled by opium clipper to his station along the China coast. You see, by the mid-1830s the trade in opium was the largest commodity market on the planet. And as Carl A. Trocki's excellent book Opium, Empire and the Global Economy (1999) points out: "The trade in such drugs results in monopoly which not only centralizes the drug traffic, but also restructures the social and economic terrain in the process. Two major effects are the creation of mass markets and the generation of enormous ... unprecedented, cash flows. [Which] results in the concentrated accumulation of vast pools of wealth. [Which] have been among the primary foundations of global capitalism and the modern nation-state itself. Indeed, it may be argued that the entire rise of the West, from 1500 to 1900, depended on a series of drug trades. "Drug trades destabilized existing societies not merely because they destroyed individual human beings but also, and perhaps more importantly [they] undercut the existing political economy of any state. They have created new forms of capital; and they have redistributed wealth in radically new ways. "It is possible to suggest that mass consumption, as it exists in modern society, began with drug addiction. And, beyond that, addiction began with a drug-as-commodity. Something was necessary to prime the pump, as it were, to initiate the cycles of production, consumption and accumulation that we identify with capitalism. Opium was the catalyst of the consumer market, the money economy. "Opium created pools of capital and fed the institutions that accumulated it: the banking and financial systems, the insurance systems and the transportation and information infrastructures." Because the Chinese desired few trade goods, the Western nations soon became short of silver to purchase tea, silk, porcelain and other desired items. Fueled by both economic and imperialistic motives, the opium trade grew from around 200 chests (16 tons) a year to 4,200 chests (336 tons) by 1820, with the majority imported from India and in the hands of British traders. But the times were a'changing. The upstart Americans introduced their famous clipper ships expressly for the "China trade," and in the 1830s the price of opium went down and shipments of opium to China went up. Shipments in 1830 were four times what they had been in 1820; by 1838, they'd more than doubled again. The opium clipper, with its ability to sail against the monsoons, sometimes made three round-trip journeys within one year, instead of taking up to two years. Profits were huge, and there was a large flow of silver being introduced from China into booming Western economies. In early 1837 there was a crash in the opium market, and the speculators' losses reverberated around the world in a financial panic, in which specie became scarce both in Britain and the US. Smuggler Robert B. Forbes lost his first opium fortune in the "Panic of 1837," and returned to China for more. He had built a house, (now a museum) in Milton, Massachusetts (not far from where former President George Bush was born). In a move that concerns career White House computer operators, officials recently put an end to the practice, leaving potential evidence under subpoena vulnerable to mass destruction. A federal judge seeking White House e-mails from 3,400 back-up tapes recently expressed his own concerns about their safety. "The public has a right to be concerned about the integrity of the tapes," said U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth, who is hearing the $90 million class-action Filegate lawsuit against the White House. The Office of Administration, the custodian of all White House records, has been storing the e-mail back-up tapes off-site to guard them against a White House disaster such as a fire or a bomb. Even air conditioning problems -- something the White House reportedly had to deal with recently, during a patch of very humid weather -- can harm magnetic computer media. Gaithersburg, Md.-based First Federal Corp. is the contractor the White House hired to store the tapes. The computer-media storage company maintains facilities in Gaithersburg and Rockville, Md., says First Federal Vice President Sandy Guidera, who declined to comment on the White House contract. White House computer operators say that until recently, the back-up tapes had been taken to the Gaithersburg site, located on West Watkins Mill Road. Northrop Grumman contractor Bill Berky has been handling the rotation of tapes from the White House side. Those not previously stored at the Maryland site are stored in the New Executive Office Building across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House. "Currently there are no tapes being sent off-site. None," a senior White House computer operator told WorldNetDaily. "It's potentially dangerous. It leaves us without any way of restoring any system that's lost." Added the career White House employee, who wished to go unnamed: "Federal law requires us to have a way to recover data from a catastrophic event." The White House, which has maintained there's no off-site storage facility, did not return calls for comment. The previous rotational cycle was set up to ensure that at least the latest year's worth of tapes were always stored off-site. "If I take Friday's tapes out there (to the Maryland storage site), then what I'd bring back with me would be this week's a year ago," said a White House computer worker familiar with the operation. "So you're bringing back a year-old set of tapes." An estimated million-plus e-mails generated by President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore and their staff have not been properly archived and thus never searched for compliance with subpoenas from the court, Congress and the independent counsel. Still, the e-mails are stored on more than 3,400 back-up tapes, which are kept in the sub-basement of the New Executive Office Building and in the custody of White House Security Officer Charles Easley. White House Counsel Beth Nolan has promised authorities that the White House will restore the e-mail from the back-up tapes and search it for relevant information before the election. But the project has fallen far behind schedule, thanks in large part to the inexperience of the contractors the White House hired to do the $8 million-plus job. Meantime, the entire batch of back-up tapes sits in Room SB-234 in the NEOB. The room is climate-controlled and secured with Defense Department-spec cipher locks. But the tapes are not stored in a vault or any type of fireproof chamber. In fact, they're kept inside "printer-paper boxes," a source who has seen them told WorldNetDaily. "They'd all be wiped out if there were a serious fire in that building," said a White House computer worker. Asked for comment, a spokesman for Judicial Watch, the public-interest law firm litigating the Filegate case, says the storage conditions only heighten his suspicions the tapes are not being properly safeguarded. "This information increases our concern that the tapes will be harmed from some kind of 'technical glitch,'" said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. New York Post-September 7, 2000 POLLARD AND POLITICS The fate of Jonathan Pollard, the onetime U.S. Navy analyst sentenced to life imprisonment for spying for Israel, has made its all-but-inevitable entry into New York politics. Specifically, Pollard has become an issue in the New York Senate race between Hillary Clinton and Rick Lazio. The Post has reported that Mrs. Clinton intervened directly to block Pollard's transfer to a harsher unit in the prison where he is serving his sentence. That action was taken at the instigation of Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind - a key political figure in the Orthodox Jewish community, who has made it known that Mrs. Clinton's best chance of winning his endorsement rests on her supporting clemency for Pollard. But if she does that, it would put her at odds with 60 percent of the members of the body she seeks to join: Joseph Lieberman, Al Gore's running mate, was one of 60 senators who wrote to President Clinton in January 1999 urging that Pollard not be released. "I feel strongly that Mr. Pollard is guilty of serious crimes against the people of the United States," Lieberman said then. The comment, and the letter, came several days after Clinton said he was undertaking a full review of the Pollard case - and promised to "make a decision in a prompt way." Some 600-plus days have passed, and no decision is forthcoming. In a meeting with The Post's editorial board this week, Lazio raised the specter of "some type of October surprise" in the Pollard case and called on Clinton to let the public know immediately whether he intends to grant clemency. Ideally, Clinton would let it be known that there will be no announcement until after Election Day. We have no doubt that Pollard is as guilty as sin - that he sold out his country for money. But Pollard's status has come up before in Mideast peace talks. While he deserves to spend the rest of his days behind bars, it's possible that his freedom could serve larger purposes. On the merits, it's hard to see those interests being advanced by further politicizing the issue. But if Hillary's husband chooses to do so - a la the get-out-of-jail cards he issued a passel of Puerto Rican terrorists last year - so be it. Let her explain why Joe Lieberman - and the man she seeks to succeed, Daniel Patrick Moynihan - are mistaken on the matter of Jonathan Pollard. We don't think that she can - not plausibly, anyway. Bresnahan © 2000 WorldNetDaily.com Although recent media reports, spearheaded by a story in the New York Times, have uncritically trumpeted as fact claims of homosexual activists that major corporations are withdrawing donations from the Boy Scouts of America, WorldNetDaily has found the claims to be largely untrue. In fact, membership and funding for the Boy Scouts of America are now at record levels. "All across the country, Scouting is prospering and growing," said Robert M. Gates, president of the National Eagle Scout Association in a recent letter to members. "Virtually every council has had healthy growth in both youth members and adult volunteers." "Every council is enjoying improved financial support, to the extent that many are making capital improvements in their camps and council service centers for the first time in years. Many councils are now able to begin building endowments or add to existing ones that will enhance programs for years to come," explained Gates. Enrollment in scouting is higher than at any time since the 1970s, according to BSA national spokesman Greg Shields. Over 47,000 boys earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1999, a new record. Many newspapers and television network news programs have repeated claims made in a New York Times article by reporter Kate Zernike that the BSA has suffered a significant financial loss -- but none of those news organizations verified the claims. For the past three years, homosexual activists, represented by the Lambda Legal Defense Fund, have been locked in a battle with the Boy Scouts over their policy of not accepting homosexuals as adult leaders. That dispute was settled on June 28 when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the BSA is a private organization with the right to exclude anyone from membership. San Francisco may have a population with a higher than average percentage of homosexuals and those who are sympathetic to homosexuals. Yet despite major publicity over the homosexual issue, membership has increased by about 14 percent a year in the San Francisco Bay Area Council of the BSA. Shields told WorldNetDaily in a phone interview that there are now about 1.2 million adult leaders and about 5 million members of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorers -- a record high. Shields also pointed out that the BSA has not suffered financial loss. Numerous homosexual activist groups have posted information on websites repeating information about major corporations that they claim have stopped donating to the BSA. WorldNetDaily found that most of those claims are false. The claims made by homosexual groups, such as Lambda Legal, appeared in the New York Times and were then repeated in many papers and news programs. Lambda Legal and various homosexual organizations claim a number of large corporations once gave to the Boy Scouts of America, but no longer do so because they disagree with the BSA policy on homosexuality. The list of donors said to be in opposition to the Boy Scouts includes: Levi Strauss Company Bank of America Wells Fargo First Interstate Chase Manhattan Textron, Inc. AMICA First Union Shields told WorldNetDaily that the list is not accurate and said he is challenging members of the press to investigate for themselves by contacting each company directly. Although Bank of America briefly banned the Boy Scouts from their list of acceptable worthy causes in 1992, they changed that policy shortly after it was announced. A company spokesman did not wish to be quoted, but confirmed that Bank of America does not have a ban on donations. Wells Fargo did ban donations to the Scouts in 1992, but changed that policy in 1998, according to a company spokesman. Norwest Corp. merged with Wells Fargo and allowed all local bank presidents to determine how they want to handle donations. First Interstate Bank never banned donations to the Boy Scouts, according to a spokesman. News accounts from 1992 indicate only that a ban was considered at that time, but there were no reports of an actual ban. Chase Manhattan Bank issued a statement last week to announce plans to continue financial support for the BSA. The bank provides $200,000 a year to the Boy Scouts. Withdrawal of support would be "harmful to thousands of children," according to the statement. The New York Times had reflected the press releases of homosexual activist groups in claiming the bank does not plan to donate to the scouts. NM: NewsMax.com has been covering your book "Sellout" extensively. Let me start by asking, how is the book doing? SCHIPPERS: From what I understand now, I haven't seen this myself but I've been told that it's No. 10 on the Wall Street Journal best-seller list and will soon be on the New York Times best-seller list. And I thought it was going to be a dud. NM: I've seen you on Fox News Channel, but I haven't seen you on any of the broadcast networks ... SCHIPPERS: And I don't think you will (laughs). NM: Has CNN shown any interest? SCHIPPERS: Not a well, yeah, somebody at CNN has shown some interest. But it's not "Larry King Live" or anything like that. Up till now I don't think I have anything scheduled for CNN. NM: Have reporters shown any interest in some of the truly newsworthy parts of your book? For instance, you wrote that Wall Street Journal piece on Al Gore and his role the Citizenship USA vote fraud scheme, which is covered in your book. SCHIPPERS: A lot of the alternative news people radio talk shows have been hitting that stuff pretty hard. Fox News hit it a couple times, Paula Zahn. What amazes me is that it is such a terrific possibility for an investigation. NM: The title of your book, "Sellout" you did name names as far as the Republican congresspeople who sold out. Let me just mention a few specific names and get your comments. Trent Lott you covered in the book. Do you have anything additional to add? SCHIPPERS: No. It was kind of funny, though. When we left Washington somebody asked me what happened. And I said, "The Republican leadership cut us off at the knees." And then somebody asked Trent Lott what he thought about that and he said, "Well, you know, that guy (Schippers) is a Democrat." All of a sudden I was a Democrat again. NM: Orrin Hatch? SCHIPPERS: Orrin Hatch strangely enough, I got along with Orrin Hatch. I really believe that what he was trying to do was broker you know, he was a consensus maker and he was trying to broker some reasonable deal. He, too, could see that there was no way that we were going to get the 67 votes (necessary to convict Clinton), despite the fact that these people took oaths. But he was trying to set up a deal where at least there would be a finding of fact that Clinton did commit perjury. I have no quarrel with Orrin Hatch. NM: Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell? SCHIPPERS: He had no real imput at all. He was there, but I don't think I had any personal contact with him at all. NM: McConnell was on "Fox News Sunday" last week and Tony Snow asked him about your charge that the Republicans had sold out. And McConnell said that you were basically right. SCHIPPERS: I think that's why I'm not hearing much screaming from the Senate Republicans or the Democrats. They know what happened. See, it was one of those strange things where these guys probably knew that stuff (about Clinton) behind the scenes all the time. But it happened that there was a citizen sitting there watching. And I decided that the people have to know about this. They have to know what's going on out there. Looking back, I was a nitwit. I sat there and watched them take the oath and I had tears in my eyes. Because I thought, oh boy, here they are, you know, statesmen. They're no longer Democrats or Republicans. Brit Hume actually laughed at me when I told him that. They kept saying, "Hey, is this guy for real?" Sen. Ted Stevens NM: Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens you revealed in your book that he was the guy who told you, "I don't care if you've got Clinton on videotape raping a woman then shooting her dead, you're not gonna get 67 votes." Anything to add there? SCHIPPERS: Yeah. It was obvious that Ted Stevens' role he was the one picked out by the leadership to cow the (House impeachment) managers. After the initial attack on Lott by the managers remember when Lott came over and told us, "Listen, you're not gonna dump this garbage on us" the managers all attacked him. Not physically, of course, but they just jumped all over him. I think from then on Lott kind of avoided confrontations. But he sent Ted Stevens in, who was a kind of irascible guy. And his job was to just hammer us down. But to be very honest with you, it didn't work. NM: How about Al D'Amato? There was nothing in your book about him. SCHIPPERS: Since he was defeated in the 1998 election he really didn't have much to do with us at all. We were counting on him in the Senate, but we ended up with Chuck Schumer, who obviously wasn't going to be much help in the Senate since he voted against impeaching Clinton in the House. Although I'll tell you something. Chuck Schumer's the one who got up and said, "Yeah, he lied. Yeah, he committed perjury."

Tshabalala-Msimang distributed copies of a chapter of William Cooper's book, Behold, a Pale Horse, to all Health MECs and provincial premiers. Among Coopers theories are that John F Kennedy's death, invasions from outer space and Aids are linked to a conspiracy by the Illuminati - a highly secretive international organisation - to reduce the world population. Tshabalala-Msimangs representative, Patricia Lambert, described the move as a routine exchange of information, and said the fact that the minister had passed on the document, which was sent unsolicited and anonymously to the ministry, did not mean she identified with it. Cooper claims the Illuminati introduced Aids to Africa in 1978 through the smallpox vaccine in an attempt to reduce the African population. Sandy Kalyan, a spokeswoman for the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA), said she was shocked the minister appeared to be taking Cooper's views seriously. Kalyan said Coopers views have been universally rejected, even by extremist conspiracy theory supporters, and he has been labelled a "publicity crazy liar" whose writings should not be taken seriously. Beneath the demonic mask, however, was the Beast just a bored and boring dilettante? By Robert Irwin 19 August 2000 A Magick Life: a biography of Aleister Crowley by Martin Booth (Hodder Stoughton, £20, 508pp Young Wife's Story of Crowley's Abbey. Scenes of Horror. Drugs, Magic, and Vile Practices. Girl's Ordeal. Saved by the Consul." So ran a headline in the Sunday Express in 1923, as it denounced the occultist Aleister Crowley's experimental Thelemic community near Cefalu in Sicily. The community's watchword was "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law". Although Crowley courted publicity, he always seems to have been surprised how bad it was when he got it. With his sinister reputation and open contempt for conventional morality, he fulfilled a need in the popular press for a really excellent villain to hound. Also, Crowley was ever so good at getting himself into other people's novels and stories. He appears under various names in Somerset Maugham's The Magician, M R James's Casting the Runes, Dion Fortune's The Winged Bull, Dennis Wheatley's The Devil Rides Out, Christopher Isherwood's A Visit to Anselm Oakes, Ian Fleming's Casino Royale, Anthony Powell's A Dance to the Music of Time, Colin Wilson's Adrift in Soho and, most recently, in my own novel, Satan Wants Me. He also featured on the sleeve of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band. A spectacularly evil man who possessed genuine occult powers is a gift to any novelist, but was Crowley really that? Did he really conjure up demons, and did they come when he called them? Martin Booth, a novelist and biographer, makes a good case for Crowley as a first-rate mountaineer, chess-player and conversationalist. He also argues that on such matters as sex and drugs, he was a thinker ahead of his times, and hence his revived popularity in the 1960s. Booth has made use of the Crowley papers in the Warburg Institute and his book, which reads easily, is longer and more thorough than the other most recent life, Roger Hutchinson's Aleister Crowley: the Beast demystified. However, though Booth's book is better than most of the 30 or 40 lives of Crowley that have so far appeared, he is not on very sure ground when he discusses occult matters. Booth's notion of what is magic is wishy-washy. According to Booth, what Crowley "classed as magic would today be considered an amalgam of the subconscious, the imagination and the techniques of reaching through to control or communicate with them often to be found in a psychiatrist's office". Not magic at all, then. At another point, Booth refers to the occultist MacGregor Mathers working in Paris on one of the most famous works of magic, The Key of Solomon, "which consisted of an ancient ritual of initiation and the true attribution of trump cards in the tarot pack". No, it did not. The manuscripts of The Key that Mathers worked on were in the British Museum and, though there are interesting spells for things like making magic carpets and exorcising bats, there is no initiation ritual nor any overt reference to tarot cards. Booth is also unreasonably credulous about the occult propensities of the Nazis. It is true that Himmler had serious occult interests, but Hitler and Goebbels had no time for such stuff. In general, the Nazis preferred torturing occultists to listening to them. As for Crowley's alleged part in Hitler's downfall, his contribution seems to have been somewhat less than that of Spike Milligan. Crowley sent a copy of his Magick in Theory and Practice to Dennis Wheatley, when the latter was still only an apprentice novelist. Wheatley was provoked to write The Devil Rides Out. People who know of black magic and black masses from stuff like Wheatley's novel may think of these things as glamorous and exciting. Either the Goat of Mendes will make itself manifest, or the Duc de Richelieu will turn up to rescue some virgin from being ravished by Satanists. The truth is that the only black mass I ever attended was a rather dreary affair. Most of the magical texts I have read, including Crowley's, have been similarly boring. There is a dated Edwardian feel to much of Crowley's writing and, though he certainly read widely in occult and oriental mystical texts, I have the feeling that his self-presentation as a magus owed more to a reading of such Edwardian peddlers of fictional occultism as Arthur Machen, Algernon Blackwood, Marie Corelli and Bram Stoker. In Edwardian parlance, there was something "not quite sixteen annas to the rupee" to Crowley. Isherwood hit the mark when he observed that the "truly awful thing about Crowley is that one suspects he didn't really believe in anything. Even his wickedness. WASHINGTON - Appearing before a hostile group of Congressmen, the
CEO of Bridgestone/Firestone Inc., Masatoshi Ono, denied responsibility
for the fatal accidents caused by his company's tires, but personally
apologized for the career of his cousin, legendary music butcher Yoko Ono.
``Where was your sense of concern, as a human being to yell: `Look out
World! Danger is coming! Yoko Ono will break up the Beatles!''' screamed
Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md.
``I come before you to apologize to you, the American people and
especially to the families whose loved ones became fans of Yoko's
'music'," Ono responded sheepishly.
``I also come to accept full and personal responsibility on behalf of my
country and my family for the events that led to the breakup of the Beatles
and the music career of Yoko Ono."
Then, without warning, Ono did the only thing an honorable Japanese CEO
could do under the circumstances. He removed a knife from his breifcase
and committed Hari-Kari, the Japanese method of suicide popularized in
WWII.
Senator Mikulski expressed little regret at the events that transpired,
saying, "As a Beatles fan, and under the circumstances, I think Mr. Ono did
the honorable thing."
So do we Senator. If only some of America's politicians were so honorable.
