RE: Winamp, more help, please!
Hi Barry. Thanks for taking the time to explain this. I'm having trouble getting the hang of Winamp, I find it crashes a lot and I get a error message. Once I become more comfortable using the thing then I will venture into the plug in thing. How and where do I install this plug in? What folder does it go into or is it self install? I appreciate your patients. Hi Walter, You need to install the SqrSoft Advanced Crossfading Output plugin. You can get it from the Winamp site at http://www.winamp.com/plugin/sqrsoft-advanced-crossfading-output/32368 Once installed, you will need to open the Winamp preferences with ctrl+p, arrow up or down until you get to output, tab to the list of choices, arrow to the Sqrsoft plugin and press enter. Re: Winamp, more help, please!
Hi Walter, The files go into C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins on Windows XP. I'm not sure about Windows 7. If you download the plugin as an executable file, I think it will have the installer built in. If it is a zip file, you just need to unpack the files and copy them to the plugins folder. Mary, In my previous post, I said that I didn't have any experience setting up Media Center in Windows 7; now I do. Sighted assistance would definitely be preferred, but if none is available, I would suggest that the NVDA screen reader would be the best choice for tackling the setup screens. I didn't get anything with Window-Eyes. the OCR in JAWS for Windows 13 did give me some usable text, but having to Use OCR on every screen gets rather tedious. NVDA seems to read the setup screens pretty well, but you do need to know how to get it to speak the necessary information. Once set up, you can use your screen reader of choice to access the Program Guide. I just press Spacebar to get a particular channel in the Guide to play or pause. Page Up and Page Down can be used to change channels. I'm enjoying having TV on my computer. I'll have to check out the recording features next. Hello Walter. Long-time winamp user here, and I find the programme to be extremely stable. Sometimes though something does seem to happen to the programme and the only thing that will fix it is a reinstall. Re: Winamp, more help, please!
Hey Barry. Here's a question for you thenWonder if you might know the answer? There's a lot of winamp functionality that I simply have no need for, but this is the only thing I can't seem to be able to figure out that I'd like to do, now that I started watching a lot more movies on my PC. I have a lot of AVI files and so on with multiple audio tracks..usually containing different language dubs, commentaries and so on. Do you know how to select which individual track to play in winamp? I can get a list of tracks using alt-three and going over to the tracks tab which shows up in the AVI info screen, but I can't seem to select anything this way. I'm not even sure that this method works with the mouse... I am using Jaws though by the way. - Original Message - From: Barry Chapman ba...@bchapman.id.au To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, December 10, 2011 8:38 PM Subject: Re: Winamp, more help, please! Re: over the air tv on a win 7 machine?
Mary, I got the AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX TV Tuner Kit from AMAZON.COM. It's a USB tuner, and it includes a short extension cable. I also bought the remote for use with Media Center that was mentioned on the same page. It turned out to have a lot more buttons than I need or want. I may not use it. Windows 7 installed the drivers for the tuner, and then it was just a matter of setting up Media Center. No software came with the tuner, and none is needed if you use Media Center. I'm going to install the NVDA screen reader, as I have heard good things about it, and it does seem to offer some things that the other guys don't, and the price is right. What kind of tv tuner did you get? I'm debating whether to get the upgrade to the Dell, if that's what I end up buying, or to get a usb stick add on. RE: Winamp, more help, please!
Hi. It is difficult to say. It seems to crash if I do something it doesn't like, there's no patern. I installed the crossfade plugin and have selected that plug in but each time I go to the configure button and press the space bar, after it thinks about it, it asks me if I want to send an error message or not. I' say no then I get the message the programme is not responding and do I want to end it, once I say yes to get out of it, I am asked again if I want to send a error message. Maybe you are right, I need to uninstall and then reinstall. The version Ihave now is the standard but maybe I should select the full version next time. By the way, when I see the configuration button, I've tried various ways to activate it without success. Just hitting the Space bar, pressing the enter key, using the key command Alt+C, I've even Routed PC to JAWS and used the mouse keys, again, still crashed. I am not a jfw user so I don't know about the scripts. As to the audio meter, I haven't had a chance to do some work with it yet, school and personal obligations. However, there is a nice little blurb about it in the help file. Some of the combo boxes were hard to read the headers from, but maybe they don't have to have headers and are context sensative. So the short answer is, no I haven't had time to play with it. Seems pretty usable though from the brief overview I gave it the other day. If you're a window-eyes user, it's important to reclass the custom controls in the meter window of the control properties so that they are buttons, saves you a keystroke or two. does processor power help with speech engines
Hello all, I suppose this might be another question that is seen as tangential to the list, but I hope it isn't out of bounds. I'm now debating between two laptops, one of which has a quad core i7, the other has an i5 duel core processor. In all other respects, the machines are the same. I am really interested in some of the new speech engines that are becoming available, for use with certain screen readers, but understand that they do require considerable horsepower. And I also understand that a quad core processor may not make any difference at all if the programs you use can't take advantage of it. I plan to use this machine for lots of audio, but not heavy editing, and for scanning/ocr. My gripe with the more resource-intensive speech has often been that it is notably more sluggish than the hardware synthesizer I've used for ages. So I wonder what you all think about the value of the upgrade to the more expensive more powerful processor. It is more expensive, but not grossly so right now. Thanks in advance for any opinions you care to offer. Mary To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: q-chord accessibility
An electric autoharp is a pretty good description. The autoharp is the acoustic instrument on which the QChord was modeled, because of the chord layout of the buttons on both instruments, and the strum plate on the QChord, which mimicks the string bed on the autoharp. Shane Jackson did a demo of the QChord on Blind Cool Tech, and that demo is here: http://www.archive.org/download/ShaneJacksonbct376Qchord/bct376Qchord.mp3 I did a demo on the autoharp and its layout on BCT as well, and that link is here: http://www.archive.org/download/MatthewBullisbct355AutoharpDemo/bct355AutoharpDemo.mp3 Enjoy both recordings. Re: q-chord accessibility
Well this now becomes definitely off-topic, but I'll just say that autoharps are still definitely being made, but buying one on EBay can be dodgy, since the autoharp is very mechanical, and parts may be missing. There's an autoharp e-mail list called the Cyberpluckers. Googling that one word will get you the list page. Pete Daigle in Seattle has some affordable and well-set-up autoharps, so start there maybe: www.DaigleHarp.com Matthew To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: GoldWave Version 5.65 is now Available
Tim. To which time are your referring? Occasionally I have issues where the start and finish markers will not read in their respective edit boxes, but that seems to be a flaky thing. If I recall, the we goldwave scripts haven't been updated in awhile. in fact not since 2008 so I'm not sure if it's the scripts. they seem to just have basic edit label functionality, more verbosity really. Re: GoldWave Version 5.65 is now Available
When you say sound the same, I assume you are talking about volume? You can do this using the match effect in the volume processes list. I haven't tried this myself but I'm guessing it works by comparison, and you can choose the optimal volume based on the file that you feel has the correct amplitude. Someone might correct me on this, but GW help should fill you in with all details anyway. - Original Message - From: Hotscot72 hotsco...@sky.com To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, December 10, 2011 9:29 PM Subject: RE: GoldWave Version 5.65 is now Available Hi, hope you don't mind, but I have another GoldWave question; I have a folder of mp3 files, and they do not all sound the same for some reason. Re: Winamp, more help, please!
Well, none of that should happen. heheh. I've had trouble configuring plugins with non-standard interfaces. THe winamp metroska/mkv one seems particularly suspect and only works about half the time anyway. I'm getting to the point of resigning to the need to use something like VLC for movies, but I don't really know if that's a concern for you or not. I haven't tried the crossfader plugin..maybe I'll give it a go and see for myself..but the spacebar should definitely activate the configure button under just about all circumstances. - Original Message - From: Walter w...@blueyonder.co.uk To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, December 11, 2011 2:57 PM Subject: RE: Winamp, more help, please! I' say no then I get the message the programme is not responding and do I want to end it, once I say yes to get out of it, I am asked again if I want to send a error message.
