Before you open the card door, attach that clip to the end of you nose. Once the door is closed, you may remove it. This way you'll feel when the door is open, even if it pitch-dark. :-) Sat Jul 9 15:48:07 EDT 2011 Stan Halpin wrote: Previous message: Has anyone painted the inside of the SD card door? Re: PESO 2011 - 110 - GDG
Thanks for the comments! Yesterday, I attended the workshop reunion annual party. This is a gathering of photographers who've taken workshops with Brigitte Carnochan (http://www.brigittecarnochan.com/) over the years ... I participated in one of her exhibition workshops (the Foto Nova 19 show in 2009). Attendees usually bring some of their current work to share. Since I hadn't made many prints of the Communicating series yet, I decided to try an idea I've been toying with ... I printed 11 very small images onto heavy paper about 3x4 inches in size (with big borders!) and tipped them into a pocket-sized Moleskine fan-fold note pad. Communicating was written on the cover and the prints were presented on the table with an 8x magnifying loupe to allow viewing them in detail. My hope was that the small size and loupe invltes an intimacy and closeness with the photos that draws a viewer into the series in a way that exhibition sized prints in a folio or gallery generally does not. Overall, I think the concept is a smashing success. I got so many complimentary comments, both on the photos and on the presentation, I think I gained three hat sizes. Temporarily, of course. ;-) Now that I see how well it worked with the viewers, I'll figure out a better way to make these little books ... as a prototype of the idea, it was successful, but tipping in small prints is tedious and the standard binding of the Moleskine note pad limits how many prints can be included in a set too much. I'd like to do more of these with about 20 to 30 images, but there has to be a way to produce them in small numbers and to a higher quality standard that is more efficient. Not being familiar with the note pad you used, I'd like to see a pix or two of it to get a better feel for what you did. FW: Amateur photographer assaulted in Greenwich Market
I had a bit of a to-do earlier today. It really made my blood boil, so I've sent the letter below to the manager of the market, cc:ed to the local paper and the British Journal of Photography. I won't be pushed around (literally!) by people, especially self-righteous busybodies. I'll let you know the outcome, if there is one. And I'll post the offending photograph later. Grumpy Dear Sir or Madam, Earlier today (10 July 2011) one of your stallholders, who identified himself as a photographer, assaulted me while I was taking photographs in Greenwich Market. The incident began when he took hold of my arm and demanded to know if I had asked permission of the person whose photograph I'd just taken. I told him that I don't need permission to take photographs in public places. He then claimed that he could arrest me, so I invited him to do so. He took my arm again, pulling vigorously to try and move me along. I told him to take his hands of me, and that continuing to detain me was itself assault. Despite this, he held on to me until I freed myself. After an exchange of words we parted company and I went about my lawful activity. This is not the first time that a stallholder has tried to stop me taking pictures, although it is the first time that one of them has laid hands on me. Please would you make clear to all of your stallholders that photography in public places is a legal activity. For the avoidance of doubt, here is the link to a page about it on the Metropolitan Police website: http://www.met.police.uk/about/photography.htm. Please also ask your stallholders to acquaint themselves with the law as it applies to so-called citizen's arrest. In short, any attempt to stop someone going about their lawful activities is itself illegal and may be assault. If this happens to me again in Greenwich Market I will press charges. This is not just a matter of law, it is also a matter of commercial good sense for the stallholders. The incident today caused a scene. Greenwich Market is a significant attractor of tourists and income to the borough, to Greenwich Market and to the traders. Tourists and locals alike enjoy taking photographs. If your stallholders take it upon themselves to try and stop people taking photographs, then both tourists locals will stop coming, and we will all be worse off for it. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

You see, if you're concentrated on something and your train of thought is derailed, in a manner of speaking, I doubt that a mnemonic could help you back on track. I know, it happens to me often. Consider this bit of C# that I recently found I wrote myself half a year ago: SomeType var = null; if (var == null) return null; else return var; Clearly, I haven't been concentrated at the time I wrote this bit. Ann, I don't have direct experience with that lens but there's some meager information at Stan Halpin's lens comments page. http://stans-photography.info/LongComments.html#28-80%20mm%20f/3.5-4.5%20A Very little so it seems. It doesn't seem to be very desirable. Nor especially good. Though the information on build quality seems to be conflicting. Maybe Jostine and Jens can illuminate their comments. About the barcode, I can't tell you much. I don't think it tells you anything about the date of manufacture. So I can foresee a scenario wherein throngs of the idle rich buy the Pentax UCF Zoom; they quickly become dissatisfied, discard the binocs, and drop the notion of replacing their Canon full frame cameras and $10,000 lenses with better cheaper equipment from Pentax. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Well, inside there were 4 (24 exposure) rolls of Kodak Gold and a Canon sureshot 85zoom (hehe). Which is probably pretty much worthless. I'm torn between keeping the stuff and selling it. So here are my questions... The K-1000 is in mint condition but it is not an oldie... it is Assembled in China one thing I'd like to check is to see if the serial numbers are NOT on the stolen equipment list. I've forgotten how to do that... The other is for opinions on the 35-80 zoom for use on my ist D - I know I can check that myself just using it - but more input would be nice too. In other words, I might sell it if it is desireable but not super great... is it better than my 18-55 kit lens at comperable focal lengths? about the film -- is there a place to go on the web to put in the bar code number to find out how old the film is?
