Re: PESO: Orchid
Hum, interesting. I'm no expert on orchids, and don't know how much variety is allowed among varieties. But based on shapes your first example is closer to mine, and based on color the second is. There's enough difference between all three to be three different varieties, or they could just be slightly different expressions of the same one. If I'd actually taken notes when I took that photo it might help, but I was just making pictures of the pretty flowers. On 2/22/2017 9:42 PM, Daniel J. I'm not all that optimistic about the FA 20-35 but we'll see. Congratulations. The K-1 is a nice piece of kit, and I look forward to seeing what it can do in your hands. Although, I can't help but wonder if you'd be able to do more with your macros using the new K-p, the sample photos I saw showed it giving the K-1 a run for its money in high ISO, and it does have a smaller pixel pitch (24 vs 18 MP in APS). For just about everything else, except maybe long telephoto work, I expect the K-1 is still a much nicer camera though. I've been doing some more stacked macros in the past couple weeks and the tought that I could be doing these with a much more capable camera than my K3 just got to be over bearing... The only issue I have with my Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens is the K1 automatically sets the field of view to crop mode. I just leave the camera on the full frame setting. Congratulations. I love that camera. I think Len has been using his with the A* 200 macro. I use the K 85/1'8 now and then and the A 50/1.2. OT -- Need to identify this font.
Well maybe need is too strong a word. A few years ago, about 7 in fact I was using this True Type font to watermark my photos on the web. Well looking back at my past pesos I decided I really like it. Unfortunately I lost the file, somewhere in the past either due to a hard drive crash or an OS upgrade, and the backups are long gone. It used to be called Sublime. An Art Deco inspired design. Now there is a font that's called sublime that comes up when you run a google search, but it's not the same one. I assume since it was a free font, that the maker was required to change it's name since the one available now is a paid product, and looks to my eye just like another boring Arial derivative. Well anyway, I have a sample taken from one of my old PESOs. https://pdml.updog.co/textsample/ Yes, I know the text in the sample is redundant. K-1 Enablement
I finally bit the bullet and put in an order for a K-1 today. I went with the 28-105 lens since the 24-70 overlaps so much with the Tamron 28-75 that I already have. I'm looking forward to seeing how the K-1 performs with some old film era lenses - the FA 50 f1.7, F28 f2.8, A* 200 macro, Sigma EX 70-200 f2.8 (1st generation) and FA 20-30 f4 zoom in particular. I'm hoping that the first generation SIgma lens does not have the mounting issue that the current version has (I found one comment on Pentax Forums that said it did not, but you never know). I'm not all that optimistic about the FA 20-35 but we'll see. I've been doing some more stacked macros in the past couple weeks and the tought that I could be doing these with a much more capable camera than my K3 just got to be over bearing... At this point Sigma is going to be designing all its premium lenses with electronically controlled aperture. The change for each lens mount they support is minimal compared to designing complete mechanically operated aperture just for one manufacturer (one with small sales volume, at that). Although it isn't clear from the photos I've seen so far it certainly looks to me as if the new D-FA 50/1.4 has no diaphragm actuation lever. -- Mark Roberts - Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: New standard lens on the horizon
John wrote: >Or else Google translate just has a dirty mind. > >What I need explained is why new lenses are so much longer than the old >ones of the same focal length? Every lens design is the result of many compromises: Small vs. large, expensive vs. cheap, tack-sharp vs. just-sharp-enough. As sensor resolution (and pixel peeping) increase it pushes lens designers towards ever more demanding optical requirements and something has to give in this case it's size/weight. So we gain optical resolution and lose light weight and compactness. Reducing light falloff in the corners generally requires larger diameter lenses and in the age of pixel-peeping people are more critical of that than ever (which is odd because it's easier than ever to correct in post). -- Mark Roberts - Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO: Orchid
I think the entire internet is becoming more cumbersome. Dropbox removed the feature that allowed display of simple HTML, actually they added extra code to their server to stop display of simple HTML, But it's still possible if you use an APP to display HTML, but it's no longer quite so simple to share links to that page. All for security, and control, their control. I can see the security angle, but they didn't disable photo sharing, now you have to display them the way they want you to, not the way you want to. A bit of nostalgia for the LX cognoscenti https://www.casualphotophile.com/2017/02/19/pentax-lx-camera-review-the-best-professional-35mm-slr-around/ Nice. I'm in the process of moving from a storage lock-up that I've had since around the time I did the big home reno in 2003. Going through boxes of various stuff I found 3 (yes 3) LX bodies, all serviced in 2002 qnd then put away, the full selection of viewfinders, A Winder LX, what seems like an endless variety of filters, just an amazing treasure trove of what has become very pretty, but useless junk (kind of like my first girlfriend, who was also useless but very pretty). Beg to differ. It pretty much does what it always did, given allowance for the vagaries of time, plus it has bonus qualities. As an example of how it improves over your first girlfriend, I'll ask how much you want for the AF-1W and I'll check to see which screens I am missing from my set. I bet you didn't get any financial return from your other candidate in the useless stakes. She was willing to have sex with me. That was, in it's own way, a financial return. The FA-1W might be the one that I don't have. I'll check and get back to you after breakfast. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
