I obviously wasted my time posting to you in another Yahoo Group, but 
that aside why did you change the modem? How did you identify that 
your previous modem was faulty?  Consider this your machine is a 
Dell, therefore there is a strong chance that you had a proprietary 
modem.  If so your PC will not allow the replacement with just any 
old modem.  Its not a case of whether your modem is XP, but Dell 
compatible?
