You know the old saying, if you can't do, teach. But I am just kidding. It 
depends on how you get to be a teacher, I taut electronics after almost 
twenty years as a tech. But I learned more while teaching than I did as a 
tech. When you teach you have to teach the whole spectrum. I was mostly self 
taught as a tech, although I did have a First Phone FCC license.  Those who 
practice some field often work in a narrow segment of their field. They 
sometimes get rusty in the other areas.
