The 1st thing I do for sound problems is verify sounds
are being produced by going to the control panel and
opening "sounds and audio devices" and click the
"sounds" tab, then click any program event that
has a speaker icon showing.
If the sound driver is the correct one and is working correctly;
the triangle test button will be highlighted and will
momentarily change to a square when clicked as the sound is being
produced.If not,it needs to be fixed before looking anywhere else.
BTW: hitting the down arrow in the above location lets you change
or remove what sound is heard for each event by choosing from a list
or browsing personal sound files and the triangle test button
lets you hear the options.
