Hi Aziz, Presently, most of the employees are not satisfied with the roles they have been given by their employers. Those who have got talent, cannot work under the present circumstances as they are not given the roles that they think should be given. In fact, it is the prerogative of the employer. Hence, satisfaction level of most of the employees is in a poor state.
Now, let us talk about the V I Community. Do not take it in a bad taste but we have just discussed how the vi community enter into banks etc through their scribes. This has created a very poor reputation about the vi community irrespective of their talent and capabilities in the minds of those who take decisions. This problem is groing constantly and many V I persons like you, who can be utilized in a better manner by their employers, are feeling frustrated and exhausted like you. However, leaving a job without a suitable alternative is no option. You may contact IStem who require content writers for preparing resources for the V I, relating to working with various software with speech synthesizers. It is implemented with those employees as well whom I know have been working fluently in other assignments. I think a collective demand has to be made in department of financial services to provide equal opportunity to the employees with disability but diverse kind of rolls. It is my personal advice don't switch to another nationalised bank. Working environment and identity crisis is almost same in nationalised banks. Presently, in most of the banks, the perception is, upto some extent blind employees are also responsible for that. many of them still did not adopt the technology. many of them still don't know the basic typing skills on desktop. in such situation, there is no option for management to assign a calling work to them. now this calling work assignment is being imposed to all slowly and steadily. You will have to invest both time and money to switch; therefore no more saying that you are stressed after your work day and cannot put in the effort. 2. Have you considered applying to other banks? 3. Satguru’s approach certainly has merit where he crafted his own role. However, in your case, it is not easy to implement because you are on calls constantly. However, it is possible to do if you put in the work after office or during low call volume periods. I doubt your call flow will be constant through out the day. 4. Most jobs these days do involve constant calls therefore get used to that. 5. You could consider a transfer to the content team of the bank assuming one exists. However, before you do that, you need to build a writing portfolio. This is true of any profession or area you want to switch too. 6. Freelancing is of course an option. Side hustles are doable, but you need to invest time as I have said before. Essentially, a large chunk of your weekend is going to be invested. 7. You can do both content writing and editing. Teaching English on various sites is also an option. 8. Do some volunteer work to get management experience if that is something you would like to have and build your cv. 9. The stock market is a good idea but ideally, you should consider algorithmic trading. Do you have any programming experience? If not, you have a steep learning curve. Again, it is doable but will take a lot of work and time. The situation of constantly being on call is affecting my mental health and reducing my efficiency I feel. So in view of that I am thinking of switching the job where my abilities duely recognised and I am having job satisfaction as well as proper work life balance. Let me give you bit of idea about me, I did my masters in English literature from Gujarat University, and have been active in some or the other mediums through civil society as well as other organisations in Ahmedabad. One thing I am in mind is the work where I have to work as a content creator and second is in field of digital accessibility. 902 as it was the need of that time due to financial constraints I was facing and thankfully I could clear it without taking any help of a scribe for my clearance as it is the norm these days. I am also applying for net jrf but have been unable to clear the same. So in view of that, I would highly appreciate if you can aprise me of the scope in above mention fields of content creation as well as digital accessibility and any other fields you may think off. -- Regards, Aziz -- Disclaimer: 1.
