Hi Sheryl, Here at ODU, so far all of our policies have become effective on the date that they are executed by the President, though we may have a reason in the future to consider a different effective date, depending on the subject matter of the policy.

Our University Counsel is asking if other universities have a >different approach, such as implementing a new/revised policy only on the >first day of a new fiscal year, etc. When do your policies become effective? Do you treat certain types of policies differently than others? In particular, are you consistent about when you adopt personnel policies to avoid the appearance of retaliation? Your comments would be most appreciated!
