So, other than the obvious strand count advantages, why would you use this vs active ethernet?

It is brain dead simple to configure. Since it “Just Works” there isn’t a lot to configure. The ONU (cpe) can run in bridge or router mode. I’m not sure what the routing/NAT speeds are capable of but it will do 1G in bridge mode without breaking a sweat.
