Glad you asked Josh. Here’s an exact situation that just happened recently:

A vehicle threw the serpentine belt. Cluster lights up like a Christmas tree 
and temp starts climbing rapidly. 

I’m 7 miles from home. 

Initiate emergency procedures. Going 50mph. Shift to neutral. Shut engine off 
and go to ACC mode. 

Passive air cools the engine and gravity continues to propel vehicle. 

Just prior to getting to the bottom of each hill, restart engine whole vehicle 
is still moving. Climb hill. Shift to neutral, stop engine. 

Got home without overheating or needing a tow.



But also - let’s assume the throttle stuck or other unanticipated acceleration 
event.
