Yeah, I've never heard of the column lock being considered anything other than an anti-theft thing before.
I suspect any vehicle new enough to have a push button start has a pretty small chance of the throttle getting stuck open, but even if that did happen, you can put it in neutral as fast as you can turn the key off, and then holding the button for a few seconds shouldn't be a big deal.
