If you are worried about turning it off while moving push start/stop button for 
3 seconds.   Restart is a matter of pushing the start button again.   If it’s 
running away the key isn’t the first thing I’m reaching for - it’s the brake.  
The brakes are always stronger than the engine.   If that doesn’t work push the 
clutch in or kick the transmission into neutral.  No modern vehicle will 
grenade itself - the computer turns off the fuel injectors at the real redline. 
   

Steering wheel column locks went the way of buggy whips - they are no longer 
required as long as the lock system meets modern standards and nearly all 
manufacturers have removed them from production.

My car at least will start with a dead remote battery - you have to hold the 
fob in a specific spot and it will start.  I think all of them have some 
similar provision.   And the car bitches for months about the remote battery 
getting low.  Yeah, I procrastinate.
