I can't believe this crap thread has been going on and on, the gist being
why Hassabis is richer than Ben, well, because Hassabis is smarter, are we
done Azn?

I don't really buy the excitement around playing old Atari games, anyone
who is into game research probably has seen that a lot of people are
looking into generic approaches, Monte Carlo simulations come to mind,
without any pretence or potential for AGI. Disclaimer: a synthetic mind
operating in a multi-agent world with compounded uncertainties will
probably use Monte Carlo tools, but I do expect the agents to be modelled
explicitly. For the same reasons I am sceptical of any system that "knows
what a cat looks like or what a cat is" since AGI boils down to, among
other things, identifying and "reverse engineering" the agents in its
envirionment, a process much more "magical" than image statistics.

So we'll go with uncle Ben's theory that it is acqui-hire, I haven't seen
or heard of any of the hires but, in my distorted little world, I can't
think of anyone I would hire "automatically" over a generic IT/MSc/PhD guy
or gal, it is more about sharing the vision and the roadmap rather than
finding the AGI Einsteins and Anastasios ;) . Similarly I am deeply
bamboozled by what mathematics will go into AGI, though I'd love to have
the superpower to know which parts sum up to much more than those same
parts.

Finally Azn, you should ask for permission before publishing photos of mine
