My game is 18 KLOC without comments. I know it's not that much, but
it's not that small either.

My game has 4 competitors (perhaps more) - 3 of which professional
game companies, and 1 is a developer on this list ;)
Let's see - my game has 100-500 sales (it has ~200 actually).
The 1st competitive company has, ahem, 100-500 (don't know how much).
2nd has 500-1000.
3rd has 100-500.
The dev has 500-1000, but his game is $0.99, while ours are about $5.

You do the math. Game companies can't justify their expenses even if
they used an out-of-the-box J2ME-to-Android code converter. Luckily
it's a hobby to me.

I'm willing to work for truffles :P

It's not "making big money quickly" the problem. The problem is that I
can't see ANYONE making ANY money (500 - 1000 sales is the best ANY
app has done yet).

Cheers
