Been there several times. For about 3 years I worked at an SF company
while living in Boulder, and I flew out every month, so I've stayed at a
lot of hotels in SF. Even did one night at the W, when my employer was
paying, and I got a good enough discount to justify it. :)

Club Quarters is typically in the $150+ range, or was back then, and
EVEN THEN if you get an outside room (which by default are the cheaper
rooms), the alley that it faces has a lot of dumpsters that apparently
get emptied (or loaded? or raided? I wasn't clear what was going on,
just that it was LOUD) in the middle of the night, as I discovered one
stay there. :(

After that I always requested an inside room, and things were good. But
CQ is often booked up, and these days I'm paying my own way, so the
$70/night option (plus probably $8/day for Bart) seemed best. CQ is also
a bit of a hike from Moscone, as you pointed out; it wasn't as bad of a
walk to my old employer. :)
