It's only bad if Google competes with and kills the existing viable projects
and apps already in the Market, replacing them with their own. If Google
pulls this, then they are going to have some problems with the community.

In general, though, developers have had several years to build good apps and
to compete. This is more than enough time to get a solid footing. But most
of the apps are still pretty bad, so no big loss there if Google moves in
and kills them off with something better.
