Aha! Now we're in the realm of hypothesis testing (and I agree that the
null hypothesis in all of our discussions (other than yours perhaps) is
that there is NO difference. And yes, many of us believe that the
evidence does not support rejecting the null of no AUDIBLE differences.
Of course now we can go down the path of which is more important here,
Type I or Type II errors.
All evidence suggests that I am a human being, born on earth. But there
is a probability distribution (of some shape) surrounding this assertion
and there is a tail, albeit extremely small, to this distribution where
at some p-value I could reject the null hypothesis of me being human!
This said, I can say that in my day job of 25 years, I publish
scientific papers, and this discussion is starting to remind me of
certain journal referee comments ("just because you can't prove it is
related, does not meet it is not related under some circumstances" --
robustness tests aside, there is no answer to this question. See, for
example, the question: Does God exist?
