You can keep on looking through the 1888 baptisms looking for another Joao
born to another Manuel Antonio Linhares.

That Marie U. Jacinto is a complete American thing. That's not her name.

The link I gave you on the basic genealogy...I have a section in
there...Who said it, when did they say it, and how did they know?
Basically, who, what, when, where, how. My dad was the source of a lot of
my stuff. So that was my "who." But I needed more. My dad got to the point
where he'd say to me (after telling me the story or anecdote), "And before
you ask, I was probably 8, 9, 10 years old, and it was grandpa who said
that." Problem 1) My dad was relaying that story 65 years after it
happened. A child's memory. Problem 2) THAT grandfather. That grandfather
was always embellishing and doing "entertaining" things in his stories so I
learned pretty quickly that his stories needed to be taken with a grain of
salt.
