To what end? What if you have a single-artist album and mark it as a
compilation? Say "Dark Side of the Moon". Do you want your Pink Floyd
albums listed beside "Polka Fever" and "Music from Valley Girl"?

I can only assume that someone tagging an album like that wants wants a
new album artist named "Soundtrack" and wants that album listed under
that artist. Someone (maybe you) was talking about using a similar
approach with tribute albums. For example, the album "Killer Queen: A
Tribute to Queen" and tagging it with ALBUMARTIST=Queen. They do this so
the album shows up under Queen.

So, you're right, in these cases not all compilations would necessarily
be located under the VA. But it's because someone is explicitly tagging
them so that they won't be located there.
