To what end? What if you have a single-artist album and mark it as a compilation? Say "Dark Side of the Moon". I can only assume that someone tagging an album like that wants wants a new album artist named "Soundtrack" and wants that album listed under that artist. Someone (maybe you) was talking about using a similar approach with tribute albums. For example, the album "Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen" and tagging it with ALBUMARTIST=Queen. They do this so the album shows up under Queen. So, you're right, in these cases not all compilations would necessarily be located under the VA.
