I very much agree with JJZolx's post and it is the basis of my post,
which I hope you will take a moment to read again with JJ's comments now
in mind:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?101264-Separate-browse-menus-for-album-artists-in-7-8-1&p=781055&viewfull=1#post781055

server already assigns an albumartist value to everything, whether one
explicitly exists in the tagging or not.

and btw, I do think any serious music user, which would cover just about
all squeeze users imo, would and in fact do care about artist vs album
artist. if that weren't true, then why does server already create only
one artist list using basically albumartist values even when they may
not be present in the tags? its been like that for years, and so
clearly the original devs realized that the main browsing method needed
to be brief, and they did not implement a more exhaustive method, which
then is the point of whats being proposed in this thread.

I also support the idea of cleaning up things under the hood, the hacks
and elimination of unnecessary complicated queries, that JJ and Phil
have mentioned. it seems to me that the data should be more straight
forwardly represented in the DB, and not conflated when called upon.
(eg. there is no reason to query comp status when creating artist lists
of any type, etc)

thx.
