And, there's also the matter of administration and coordination of the
project team which, as BSC Games pointed out, can do a project in
(especially long distance-wise).  If you can work closely in-house with
other members of the team, that's one thing, but trying to get people do
complete stuff who aren't in the immediate vicinity is often difficult.

Hi.
Well, there is already a forem called agdev where those of us in 
accessible games toss around ideas, secrets, and advice how to over come 
common programming issues.
However, as Charles pointed out distribution and splitting the income is 
two major barriers from game companies joining forces on a project. Not 
to mention some of us like working solo.
Charles is also right that there are areas a game dev may not want to 
share. For example key encryption and registration. Those are sensative 
areas and security has to be tight on how they work.
