Hi Thomas,
I would say it was not a problem, as long as game playability was not 
affected. For instance, would it be easy to hear the wood ladder next to a 
stone floor and things like that. The metal ladders, while they were not 
realistic perhaps, did have a very unique sound compared to  the environment 
around it.
