Hi, Montezuma II had to be one of histories biggist idiots. You see, the problem was the Aztec prophets were telling them that it was time for the gods to return, and it was the end of Aztec society as they new it. it happened to be the Spanish good fortune they appeared at the right time, and while not gods, they put the fear of god in to the Aztecs so that they gave up quickly at first and tried to passify them thinking the Spanish were their gods. It was only after Montezuma was captured, torchered, and it was learned the Spanish were men and not gods the Aztecs realized they had been dooped.The Aztecs of course had a revolt, and it was a bloody fight, but they had allowed the Spanish to take hold in Mexico, and it was impossible and to late to drive them out by that time. Besides they had unwittingly revealed their treasures to the Spanish, and the Spanish were blood thirsty for gold.
