Was at the dealer & saw the new 5 in person. Wow, & I thought the Z4 & new
7 were ugly. That car really isn't attractive from any angle (at least the
Z4 has a pretty stylish tail-end). Oh yea, & Subaru called......they want
all their WRX tail-light assemblies back. At least sitting in one, you
can't see what the thing looks like on the outside......

Is everybody sure that Bangle isn't working undercover for one of BMW's
competitors?

I guess the 3 is the next car to be butchered????

So far the only one of Bangle's designs that is remotely stomachable is the
upcoming 6 in this month's Roundel. It actually doesn't look that bad.

Couldn't agree more - I saw a new 5 yesterday and it's definitely bugly
(butt+ugly) from every angle. I agree about the 6 although it would have
been so much cooler IMHO if he/they would have just smoothed off the
top of the trunk instead of making it bulge out the way it does. But
then, of course, it would have lowered the amount of trunk space - and
it would have looked like a Porsche 8^). Still waiting to see one in
person, though.

I think the new Sixer looks OK too, in the same way that all its competitors
in the luxo coupe market segment look OK. Come to think of it they all also
look pretty much alike. I agree with Lee about the Five. A Nissan Altima
looks similar, perhaps better, at 1/2 the price.

I guess most of the long term car nuts among us didn't originally settle in
with BMW because of styling, but we have come to expect cars that look
distinctive and balanced. The new 'wave' of BMWs do not, immho.

Before I saw one, my sister told me about seeing one in person. She saw it
from the front & thought initially it was the full-size Saturn.

She's a car enthusiast, BTW.

Maybe conservative too. I wonder what folks first thought when they saw the
E12 or E23, which are really nice-looking forms IMHO? Or what they thought
when used to E21's, E12's when they saw the reasonably boxy E30's & E28's?

I just saw all the new Beemers at the Dubai International Motorshow and all I can say
is WOW!

Frankly, I think you're all conservative to the extreme. The new 5 is the closest to
old-style Beemers from the new models, and you don't like it??? Beats me. I think the
car's stunning.

I looked at and sat in: Z4 3.0i, 645Ci, 545i, 760Li, X3 2.5i. Also saw the Hamann Z4
and E60 5er in person.

Z4: Awesome futuristic looks, cabin space is a bit tight but it suits me perfectly.
The car for me, if anyone wants to buy me a Christmast present - black Z4 3.0i, 6
speed manual, please :-)

645Ci: Would be my 2nd choice from all the new Beemers. Space in the back is limited,
but I was very comfortable nevertheless (I'm over 6ft). Looks far better in the metal,
still a bit weird here and there, but IMHO that's what makes style last. Just like the
shark-nosed E24 - I'm sure the old 6 looked just as controversal 20 years ago.

545i: Car looks damn good. I saw one parked on the street while I was walking down to
the local Pizza Hut - I stopped and looked at it for 2 minutes. It's a thing of beauty
if you ask me. Interior is damn fine too.

760Li: I'm far too young to be attracted to this type of car but seats and supremely
comfortable, front and rear. Can only imagine what that V12 is like to drive...

X3: After being hugely impressed by a friend's X5 4.4i Sport, the X3 is very plain.
It's somewhat weird looks on the pictures look very plain in the metal - not ugly, far
from it. Just a normal 4x4 thing. It should still sell by the bucket load though,
interior feels solid, and reports say XDrive does wonders for on road fun.

The Hamann cars didn't impress me too much, I think the looks of the standard cars is
damn good and they're only adding useless bits to them. Some people just have to be
different, I guess.

On a related note, after poking around in the Porsche Cayenne and it's cousin, the VW
Touareg, they both suck compared to an X5. Just can't touch it, exterior, interior,
styling... the only threat comes from the VW V10 TDI, but I'm not a diesel fan anyway
- I like screaming engines ;-)

Cheers,
Pavel

I rented one of the New 5's when I was in Germany this summer,
a 520i and it was one of the best cars I've ever driven. (The engine
lacked enough power for my tastes but that's easily fixed!) I too
think the car is stunning. It has a different look than the e39 but
I like it. Can't wait until the V-10 comes out! (Can you say
European delivery and the Nurburgring...)

You're making a pretty big generalization about us all being
"conservative." Maybe most of the comments lean in that direction,
but I'm not against new things or new styles per se. I just don't
happen to like this *particular* direction. You can be *new* and
*inventive* and not be UGLY.

It's a sad day when both Mercedes-Benz *and* Audi make better
looking cars than BMW.

Yeah, yeah, I'm already tasting my toenails on that one thanks to the Euro guys
on the E34M5 list.

Set of 4 14" Blizzak WS-15 (the original Blizzak) snow tires and
steel wheels with original chrome hubcaps from a 1975 530i (5-bolt
hub). Two tires have more than 50% tread and the other two have more
than 60% tread remaining. Size is 195/70/14. This package will fit
all 5-series up to 1988, all 6-series up to 1989, and all 7-series up
to 1986 EXCEPT M CARS! They will not fit any 3-series car.

These tires will get you through even the worst storms this area has
seen. Still plenty of the Multicell ice-gripping compound that the
Blizzak is famous for! These will last at least 1 or even 2 more
seasons, just don't drive hard on dry pavement.

Asking $125 for all four.

Located in Northern VA. I can ship via UPS, but it's going to cost
more than you probably would like. Prefer local pickup. I have pics,
will upload to my webspace tonight.

Thanks
James

Simple question,

On U.S. spec e39's and e38's equipped with TV tuners, what did the tuner
use for its reception antenna? Did it use the GPS antenna? Radio
antenna? Or some other antenna? Any help would be appreciated.

Well, NAV-TV sells OEM antenna amps for their kits. They fit under the
c pillar covers on E39s and connect inline with the in-the-rear-window
AM/FM antenna. Could not say on other cars.

Thanks for the interest folks :)

As I said, I am also interested in an outright sale if I cannot find a
suitable E30. I updated my page of information with more pictures and
maintenance history:
