You can get them rebuilt. I guess it depends on the cost vs. new. I had
the M5's rebuilt by Reseda Radiator (they advertise in the Roundel) as
new M5 radiators were pretty pricey.

Bill, I have enough respect for Pete McHenry (by reputation, no
personal experience) to trust his judgement. The only thing I'd ask
him that you didn't mention in your message is: Are his
recommendations based on a budget? Would his answer be different if
the budget were not an issue? This might give you different choices,
or a reason to make a different decision. Although I suspect budget
is not an issue here.

Wife's car has been indicating overheating, within seconds of starting,
consuming coolant that doesn't leak onto the garage floor, and missing
at idle. A compression check this afternoon revealed good compression
except for the fact that the number 3 piston pumped coolant out the plug
hole, across the M5, and against the far wall of the garage!

Car is a 100K 1996 328i E36 sedan with single VANos

Has anyone done a head removal using the Bentley instructions? They are
quite detailed regarding special tools and valve timing.

If I rent the tools from Brett Anderson, is this something I can do in a
fairly well equipped home the garage?

Is this a good time to go with Conforti software and cams? Should I have
a valve grind done at this time?

Thanks in advance, as alaways,

Ed

Ed,

You may have a cracked head on that M52. I would get the head off and get
it checked at a good head shop or even better, ship it off to an expert if
you don't have one local.

Start there and see what your budget allows.

Right on Anand!!! You sound like you're from Oregon too. As BMW didn't
import '95 M5 Touring CARS into the USA, please tell me how you got one and
how you got it through DEQ. I LUV that car. Lucky you.

I just returned from the mountains (Portland to Bachelor through Mt. Hood
and return). I used my M5 spoiler (E39) at least 3-4 times on our paved
roads through the mountains this weekend. Sure wish I could raise my car a
bit in those weather conditions. Maybe I should look at a AllRoad when the
V8s arrive.

Why not just buy the Audi S6 wagon, like we did, and get the V8 now? And since Audi
only made them in 2002 and 2003, you'll be getting a used one, with the biggest amount
of depreciation having already occurred.

Subject: access to sunroof drain holes
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I have seen reference over the years to unclogging the sunroof drain holes
on an E30 by pushing a stiff wire or a weedwacker string through. Can anyone
clarify how to get access to the rear drain holes? I have tried pushing a
wire down the channel from the sunroof opening (with the sunroof open), but
I don't seem to get very far - it is not even clear that I am getting into
the drain exit. It may be so blocked that I am not getting in. Do people
remove the sunroof to get access, or just use lots of force, or get at it
from the other end - where does this drain exit?

Thanks,

Stephen

This is so cool. I bet that it won't cost more than $50,000 for taxes and
transportation to get it here.

I wonder why the company is in Amsterdam, the email comes from Australia,
and the return address is in India? Their street address is a little
strange also. There is a Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, at 35 West
Fifth Street in Cincinnati, but not in Amsterdam.

Harbor Freight currently has an online special for their aluminum racing
jacks...$89.99. I had been waiting for the price to come down...they
used to sell for upwards of $160...
I'm still not sure how I stumbled upon it, because I went to look for it
again, and could only find one at $99.99, but if you go to
www.harborfreight.com and search by item number for 91039-1VGA you
will find it, at least for now. Note: it's only rated at 3000
lb....probably OK for a corner or two of (today's increasingly HEAVY )
BMWs , but as always, use jack stands for safety!
