I'll put my vote in for the BBS RK. If I had the budget the Rks would be my track
wheels - but I don't so I'm running around on M3 take-offs. Of the Fikse wheels
mentioned I prefer the FM/5 - but Fikses are a step up in price!

First off I must say that they are wheels not rims. :) Rims are simply
the outer edge of a cylindar. If you were to drive with no tires on
then you would be on the rims. The part that the tire goes on is the
wheel. I just have a pet peeve with everyone calling them rims. But to
answer your question I like the Vision the best plus you don't see them
everywhere like some of the others.

About to replace my rear shocks in the my 325. Car
isn't tracked, should I just go with some convertible
mounts as opposed to the standard mounts? Or are
urethane mounts even better?

TIA,
Brian

Brian, use E46 Convertible mounts, they're beefier than any of the E36
factory mounts. Urethane can get squeaky and ride poorly, so it should be
used only on track/competition-only cars.

If anyone is curious about my results of filter restriction as the
filter ages (bottom of the page), it ain't really happening. I take my
car out about once a month to go to the autocross and ride my motorcycle
the rest of the time. The filter is probably decomposing faster than
it's clogging up.

Jeff Batt said:
"I recently did a Service II (myself) to my 1995 M3 (80k on it). In a
stroke
of luck, I ran out of time and was forced to replace the spark plugs a week
later. The car was running fine before the spark plug change, but had a
small rmp drop at idle after I changed the spark plugs (so I knew it was the
plugs). I was running bosch plus 4 plugs, and went to bosch plus 2's. The
car seemed to run fine at speed, but again, when sitting at a stoplight or
whatever, there would be a repeating VERY SLIGHT drop in RPM, the car would
feel like it was going to stall (just slightly though - it never actually
came close to stalling), and then it would be fine for another 20
seconds...this cycle would just repeat.

I then bought 6 new bosch plus 4 plugs, and the problem went away. I'm
happy that it's gone, but sort of wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to
why it happened? The only thing I can think of is one of the plugs was bad
or weak. BTW - I'm running a Dinan Stage II chip/fuel regulator, a Dinan
throttle body and a Bavarian Autowerks K&N filtered air intake."

Jeff-
This has been discussed at some length on the E36M3 list, prompted by me
trying to pin down a similar problem (idle drops on coming to a stop). It's
pretty common, and there is no consensus on the cause. The main suspects are
aftermarket chips (I have a Jim C, do you?), and the ICV (ever replace
yours?). I had about settled on the ICV and in fact have ordered one, but
your post gives me pause -- since I had just replaced plugs when the problem
first became noticeable. Our situations are similar; my engine (actually in
an E30) is from a 95 M3 and has 88k on it.
I think I'll first try another set of plugs (F7LDCR) and see what happens.
I've used about 4 sets and never had a bad one, but maybe their quality
control is declining.

The stock mounts, whether E46 or E36, will still wear out & tear at some point.

Best solution IMO are the RSMs from either JTD Designs or Ground Control. I
happen to have 2 sets of the JTD ones on my E36s and have been very happy
with them. The set in the M3 has the softer "street" bushings installed,
since the car is a daily driver (although I had the same bushings in when I
tracked it). No squeaks, rattles, or other unusual noises. The race car had
a set of the stiffer "track" bushings. I don't think the squeak or make
noise either, but I wouldn't really know since the car's interior is
removed, aftermarket exhaust, coilover suspension (you get the picture :-)).

BTW, both cars also have the Z3 reinforcement plates installed as well for
added insurance.

No problems with the stock suspension and recent SA Konis on the M3 and the
Group N suspension on the race car.

Hope that helps,

OOPS! I _JUST_ realized I said the Breyton Imagine,
when I meant the Breyton Inspiration. I would love
some Fikse's or AC Schnitzer wheels, but their price
is a little too out there for me. I like the Breyton
Inspiration because they are somewhat similar to the
Type III AC Schnitzer wheels (and for that matter, so
are the BBS RAs). Does that significantly impact
anyone's thoughts or comments?

Do the BBS wheels generally run pretty light? I'd
definitely like to use lighter wheels (obviously).

Thanks again, sorry for the ID-10-T error.

BBS RK's & RC's are the lightest cast wheels BBS
makes for street cars AFAIK. there are also some
rarer forged RC's (RCJ's actually) and also the recently
introduced RGR's which are forged in Japan by BBS
and sort of a combination of the RC & the RX style.

I consider anything under 18 lbs for a 17x8 to be "light",
19-23 to be normal & 24 & up to be heavy. most factory
E36 17's in 7.5" are in the 20 lb range, with the 8.5" & 9"
wheels trending towards the 22-24 range.

even with a light 17" wheel you'll likely be increasing the
overall wheel/tire weight over the stock 16" or 15"
wheels you have now, so you'll add grip, but likely impact
the ride & sometimes the accleration of the car.

but plenty of room to store tires, tools and personal belongings. At
