The ABS light just came on near the end of last year (just before winter) at the same time that I had a few instances where the ABS kicked in at 5-10 mph as I approached complete stops in dry, good traction conditions. I removed the ABS relay under the dash in order to disable the ABS. The bang/tap phenomena had been occuring for several months prior to the ABS first coming on. And that the standard momo adapter is made for a non-airbag car? And that the BMW airbag wheel has more depth? And that I was not thrilled with just using washers as spacers, like some folks have done? Well, I was poking around on e-Bay at lunch today, and found someone selling a momo steering wheel spacer. I hadn't seen them on the momo web site, but a Google search found them in at least two thicknesses - 1/2" and 1.5". So my problem is solved, now I just need to find myself a wheel. Thanks to everyone who responded, but if I had known about the momo spacers, I never would have asked. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have a 99M3 with 66K, and just put a set of Bilsteins. Despite their reputation of being very firm, the ride is actually more comfortable, and much more controlled, than the OEM shocks. Apparently the stock shocks were shot and bottoming out. Koni's are also excellent--I put a set of those on my wife's VW Passatt last year, and they transformed the car. Koni's are also adjustable, so you can set them to your taste. Given the labor required to install shocks and struts, it is really worth doing Konis or Bilsteins, both of which have lifetime warranties. Get them at www.xshocks.com or www.shox.com MikeG ----- Original Message ----- From: "Batt, Jeff (MED)" Subject: [UUC] E36 M3 shock - what to get and best place to buy? > > I'll likely be buying new shocks for my '95 M3 in the next few months (it > has over 80k on the clock and the bumps are starting to feel a lot harder > than I remember them). HAMBURG, Germany (AFP) - Drivers of high-performance Porsche sports cars are more likely to play fast and loose by having extra-marital sex, according to a poll in the May edition of German motoring magazine Men's Car. The survey found that nearly one in two (49 percent) Porsche male drivers were unfaithful to their partners, compared to 37 percent of women who get behind the wheel of the German car. BMW drivers were not far behind, with 46 percent of men who cruise the roads in the Bavarian luxury cars admitting to having slept around, found the study conducted on 2,253 auto owners aged between 20 and 50. Among women, Audi drivers were the least faithful with 41 percent saying they had veered off the straight and narrow. Drivers of Opels were considered to be the most faithful. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 May 2004 22:09:17 -0400 From: matt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: UUC Digest <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [E30] 325iX still has steering binding... Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> OK, ever since I replaced my control arms I have had occasional binding steering. It happens most when cold, but not with any discernable pattern. Here are the symptoms it exhibits: Stiff steerring off-center. Wheel does not return to center, car will turn in circles with hands off wheel. Stiffness just goes away after a while and returns again. It makes no noises, fluid is Amsoil ATF with no big leaks. I add fluid every 10,000 miles or so. I thought it was a blown front Bilstein as it had a slight knock in the front. I replaced the Bilsteins with Koni Sports Saturday. It was fine for one day. This morning it was sticky again. I checked everything while the car was apart for the struts and all parts look good. Strut bearing healthy, all ball joints good, CVs seem good as well. Any ideas? Some say it may be the steering knuckle to the rack... -Matt 1991 325iX -> 210,000 and still going! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 May 2004 22:50:36 -0400 From: "KMS - Brett Anderson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "UUC Digest" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Airbag Surprise!
