Group,

The 745i, in question, was totaled (front/front drivers side). The key was
jammed into the ignition system and cannot be removed. Short of prying the
trunk lid open (which is unmolested) does anyone have any idea's on how to
get into the trunk?

get dealer to make another keybased on VIN.

crawl thru pass-thru (if so equipped)
into trunk, fumble with release in the dark.

Wait a second...... You know someone small enough to crawl thru the pass
thru?

I just love the sound that escapes at WOT

Subject: My NAV / Stereo went nuts today
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Heading out at lunch today (rainy day, mid 70's). Started the car up
(01 M5) and everything was fine. I had a passenger and we were talking
so I didn't fire up the XM, the stereo was "on" in cd changer mode
(using the BlitzSafe digital adapter to switch between XM and an Alpine
MP3 changer) and the NAV display was up. About 5 minutes into the trip the
system started going nuts - it was as if someone were hitting all the buttons
  - the door opened and closed over and over (to expose the tape deck), it
changed to radio, changed stations, auto stored stations, turned the display
on/off, etc, etc.

Thank goodness the volume control was not affected so I didn't have my
ears blasted.

I tried to turn off the stereo and it would not respond. When stopped
at a light I turned off the car, removed the key. I had to restart in
30-45 seconds (light changed). It started doing it again, but a bit
less frequently (it seemed) and was able to turn off the stereo.

After lunch (the car sat for 30 minutes) it worked fine, and another
trip later it worked fine.

Sounds like trouble - any ideas? I am under warranty, but I am sure it
will be a "can't reproduce problem" if I took it in.

Thanks!

That is not true.

On my Dinan7, the Dinan logo, oiled, pleated-cloth filter is $76 and
that is for a 4.6 liter supercharged V8.

But, but, but do you have an S54 motor stripped down in the garage ceremonial altar
that has been sitting there for two years waiting for you? Huh, huh, huh?

I don't. Only a high priest of the Umoronite would have that. ;-) I do have four sets
of tires, two sets of wheels and other stuff. Why, I don't know. This is insane, I
know, but I can't help it. My wife used to nag me but since she got her Z3 she started
looking the other way. We're doomed. I just know we are.

FWIW I recall reading something some time ago about switching from
"regular 'green' " coolant to Dex-Xool (orange) that if you don't
REALLY THROUGHLY clean out the old green stuff and some residual green
stuff mixes with the new Orange stuff, you get some kind of gel that
can clog or corrode or otherwise mess things up.

Dex-Cool is pretty good, but I'd switch to the G-05 now that it is easily
available. It has an even lower pH which will extend the life of plastic
cooling system parts. Make sure you flush all the Dex-Cool out.

COLD AIR: If cold air is the answer, why don't I just route an A/C vent to
the front of the air filter? I could care less about cabin temperatures when
I'm concerned about performance. Perhaps a switch could be installed that
allows ALL THE A/C OUTPUT to the air intake.

Well, I am pretty sure that the amount of power robbed by the A/C exceeds
that of the amount additional horsepower it might make due the cooler air
for the intake. This sounds a little bit like the h*mster charger...

;-)

You could always pack your intake with dry ice. I hear that Gary D has some
for sale on eBay...

Gary,

That's what Dinan does. I bet that the HP gain they claim is primarily from
ECU S/W management changes. They won't sell the air intake system w/o the
S/W upgrade.
