You don't say what car you're talking about, but assuming it's your E36 M3,
the ball joints aren't replaceable independently of the control arms.

Neil,
I'm considering installing Meyle ball joints in worn out regular arms as
an alternative to higher priced //M arms. $60 for two ball joints vs.
$150.+ for a new arm.

The new arms also have a new inner balljoint as well though... Seems like
if the outer balljoint is worn out the inner is probably going to have
some wear as well...

...at least, that's what I told myself when I decided to buy new arms
rather than just balljoints on our non-M e36... :-)

The replaceable ball joints are rubber mounted as far as I can tell on
my 325 control arms. There's that and you probably can't replace the
outer ball joint on your M3 arms unless you were already running 325
control arms.

If it was me I wouldn't do it, the rubber mounted ones are probably
quieter but they won't hold the alignment as well. You autox that car
so you'll probably have worse performance than the nice solid mounted
ball joints that you get with the M3 arms. Just my opinion. Good
point on the price difference though, the M3 ones are about double the
cost of the 325 ones.

Carlos. (has both new 325 and M3 arms, guess which ones are going into
the future race car? :-) )

John,
If you like playing with pi in the i,
1 = 1x1 = sqrt(1) x sqrt(1) = sqrt(1 x 1) = sqrt (-1 x -1) = sqrt(-1) x
sqrt(-1) = i x i = -1
therefore, 1 = -1,
and so the i drive will return to being a product of flawed logic.

sqrt(-1) x sqrt(-1)

I don't beleive that was in my Algebra book :)

Holy cow, my profound apologies for opening this can of worms!

It has the look of outlasting the "english" thread of a month or so ago.

The next thing you know, we'll be debating the differences between
parabolas, hyperbolas, and catenary curves.

How 'bout that V10 in the new M5--thing of beauty, or over-teched,
low-torque blashphemy?

I am going with both.

That spread in Roundel that showed all the V10 parts laying out on the
floor was sure nice to look at. I shudder to think what all those parts
will cost once these cars are available used and out of warranty...

Trying to re-assemble them all could well lead to over-torqued low-tech
blasphemy...

Cut in half it would make a potent 5 cyl, 250hp or so? Any rumors if
BMW is considering it or is this just a load of bull?<groan>

On the 328 we replaced both relays (red and gray) but the ABS still shows
lights the warning lamp. Is the test of the sensors still the next best
course of action before digging into the ABS solenoid unit to re-solder the
kapton leads?
What's to watch out for?

I had a similar problem on the M3, and the ABS fault code indicated a
faulty brake pedal travel sensor. It's a sensor that it located at the
brake booster. I replaced it about a year or so ago and haven't had a
re-occurance of the fault.

I can dig out my post with the info/part number/etc and re-post it this
evening.

If you've got a local tech who will read out the ABS fault code, that
would give you the best chance of fixing the problem (my apologies if
you've done this already, and I've forgotten :-)).

I went on this same hunt and replaced the pedal travel sensor and the
brake light switch, and checked the relays. Finally I ended up taking
it to the dealer, and it turned out to be one of the wheel sensors.
IMHO you should really check the sensors before going too much further.

Hello Gruppe,

I'm in the Los Angeles Area, and am wondering if
someone in the area has an SRS reset tool I could
borrow for my E36 M3. If not, I guess I'll have to
head over to the local independent.

other than Falken or vendor promo material. Anyone heard or read anything?
