Eddie, my understanding is that it takes a computer programmed to do
E46 maintenance to re-set the light. A few independent repair shops
have these computers, but I don't know how to find them. The dealer
might be your best option. It would also be nice to know what set the
fault to begin with. When the light is on, the airbag system is not
working properly.

So, got any new movies in the works? I really enjoyed Beverly Hills
Cop.

For future reference:

http://www.peakeresearch.com/srstool.htm

It comes with a booklet that tells you what the faults are. Although it does
not help you diagnose.

well, not exactly, but the trees were involved. a tree threw a nice
sized limb at the car and sheared off the pass. mirror and put a nice
dent in the door as well. hard to park around here and not be under
a tree.

I have one you may have, did the electrics and wiring survive?

Ah, heck, just sell me the car and be done with it . . . .

I have the above brace and want to install it on my '01 330 ci--can someone
give me the torque specs for the bar to the end pieces, and the end pieces
to the strut tower. I also need to know if I need part # 51-797-815-241
these should be the strut tower nuts for the M3, are they different than the
ones on the 330, or can I use the old ones?

Thanks Marc

18 to 20 ft/lbs, but it's not too important to be precise here. For the
part number, do you mean 51-717-895-241? The $5 to $6 nuts that look like
mushrooms? Yes, you need them because their threaded shaft reaches down
past the thickness added by the brackets to engage more threads on the
strut cap. I have 6 of these that I can't use that I'd sell you if you
want to contact me off-list.

See this link for the parts:

So I would appreciate a clear explanation of the differences between
and open and limited slip differential. Also what's the deal with
lockup and the different percentages I keep hearing about?

An open differential splits the torque 50/50 between the two drive tires.
When one of them slips, its torque to both is limited to that amount.

Limited slip limits the slip by placing some sort of connection between the
two drive axles. Mechanical clutch spring applied, mechanical clutch
hydraulically applied, worm gears with high pressure angles, viscous clutch
with thick fluid and perhaps even more ways than those.

With limited slip, torque is transferred from the slipping tire to the non
slipping tire allowing greater acceleration. This is most useful on a race
track when accelerating out of a corner, it is also useful when one tire is
on slick ice or mud and the other is on something more solid.

I have an 88 325is with the larger bumpers. I want to
replace all of the black rubber trim, i know about
upgrading the bumpers but I am keeping this car all
original. I have tried numerous solutions to restore
the trim but none work to my satisfaction. What I'd
like to know is where can I buy these pieces at a good
price? Bavarian Autosport wants and arm & leg for
this, so other than them.

Thanks in advance,

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Have you folks seen pix of the new Michelin tire ?? I was sent some
jpegs today showing them in action on another German car (can I say Audi
??) . Weird looking to say the least ..it has what looks like an inner
core attached to the wheel (somehow !! Glue ?) then there's a
spiders-web series of radial ribs that look like the spokes on BBS
-style wheels, all of which attach to the inside of the tread directly .
There is obviously NO air in it .The wheel in the pix is also an x-spoke
style . One of the pix shows the tire climbing over a fair-sized brick
with sharp edges ..the ribs and tread distort .Looks almost as if they
could manufacture it by extruding (or pultruding ) through an
appropriately shaped die ..just like sausage !!-and cut it off to
whatever width is desired ...
Weirdest thing tho is to be able to look 'through' the tire as the
vehicle passes ..it looks just like a bicycle wheel in miniature ...and
see the brake calipers appearing to be suspended in space at centre of
the wheel . Gonna take some getting used to ...
If someone has a site to display the pix I'll be happy to forward them
so all can see ...

Hey Gruppe,

I was wondering what would cause high HC on a smog
test (CA). Other than the O2 sensor, what could cause
this? The HC test has a maximum of 85 HC, and the car
read out at 85.

Thanks,
Brian
