Heating system, glass hatch struts, sporadic taillight and a compressed bumper shock - those will get worked on, then maybe figuring out a receiver type hitch. Then the car has to work for me. If it's good maybe it can run my 533's 16" MOMO wheels. It would have to get real good or real sick to get a trans swap though. I can't tell you whether or not the parts were OEM. Symptom: Static on the AM radio band when the engine is running, but it stops when the engine is shut off. Anyone BTDT? How can my friend get rid of the AM radio static? Without changing to FM or tape or just shutting off the radio all together. My theory is that he has the wrong spark plugs. Haven't checked them yet. Same for the ABS pump. Turn off the heater blower. If it's convertible, turn off the rear window blower/heater. Oh and make sure the fuel pump is off. It's back there not far from the antenna and amplifier. Seems like right before my e30 fuel pump quit, I even got some noise on FM thru the amplifier back there. Maybe try running electric motors individually to see if one of them is generating more than its fair share of electrical noise. Oh, and I almost forgot, if your electric fence is arcing over to weeds or a fence post, that will make a zap zap noise on AM radio from a hundred feet away. So have him check his and his neighbors fences too. -- "It is an honor to be Cookie Monster." -Sesame Street spokeswoman Audrey Shapiro ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jan 2006 08:55:43 -0800 (PST) From: "Ryan Simmons" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Scott & Charlotte Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "E30 Yahoo Group" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, "UUC Digest" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: <E30> Radio Static Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have the same problem on my E30 325e. The spark plugs are OE Bosch (not platinum) and although I have not tried to fix it, I have always thought that it was due to my aftermarket plug wires. My reasoning comes from my experience with my 78 320i. I always revieved AM until I switched to Bavarian Autosport plug wires. I called Bavarian on it and I seem to recall them saying something about the insulation of the wire that caused it, but I am not sure on that. Check the wires. It's held in place through a combination of support from the pillar trims, the sunroof edge trim and the screws securing your "oh shit" handles and sun visors. Hardest part of removing it is working out how to get it out the door. One of my customers just had us pull a good working sunroof assembly out of his E36 M3 that's becoming a race car. Craig Lippe, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, in case you're interested in a simpler fix. What should I look for other than having the car inspected by a mechanic? What are the weak point on these cars? I have owned several BMW's in the past, nothing this new though. Also do these have timing belts or chains? Any other useful information to consider when buying one of these would be helpful.
