Thank you very much Mr. Jackson. Your reply and Mr Mosen's
actions on this subject is very encouraging, and I am much more
comfortable about my upgrade to an Mpower. Your response
answered all my concerns.

Subject: Re: [Braillenote] losing files
Hello Sammie,
Firstly, I would stress to you that this issue appears to be by
far, a
problem in the cases of a small minority of BraillNote users.
This comment
should not be interpreted as undermining the seriousness of the
situation or
the problem itself as we take any data loss seriously and log it
in our bug
tracking database, attaching a critical flag to such problems
accordingly.
Speaking to this problem as a BrailleNote user myself, I can tell
you that I
often let the battery run down completely in order to perform
complete
battery cycles and I haven't lost any contents on the flashdisk
to date. I
understand that this is when data seems to be disappearing,
again, in a few
cases. To date, we have, to my knowledge, not seen this issue
manifest
itself on any of our technical support phone queues.
Jonathan has alerted the BrailleNote Development team to this
issue and once
it has been researched further, we will be able to provide an
explanation as
to the problem.
Removing a compactflash card will prevent any Windows CE
formatting that
might take place at startup. This formatting occurs if the disk
scanning of
external devices, which occurs when Windows boots, finds a drive
in an
unusable state.
In the event that all data on the flashdisk went South, as is
being reported
happens, you would lose the contents of all your databases,
including email.

Subject: [Braillenote] losing files
hello Dean, Jonathan, and List,
For the past two days, I've read about losing files. This
problem concerns me greatly. I just sent my BrailleNote to
Humanware California to be upgraded to the MPower and have a few
questions that perhaps someone can answer about files lost.
1. If your device freezes and you can't go to Main Menu without
resetting, can't you remove your compact flash card to keep the
information on it from being erased? I understand that you will
lose any thing you are creating or editing, but if removing the
card is possible, it won't get reformatted, will it?
2. Will this reset erase all the messages in your E-Mail files
and folders if the device reformats?
3. is the Humanware staff, (tech support, repair, and engineers)
working to resolve this problem? On limited incomes, it is
depressing to finally be able to afford an upgrade or a new
MPower, only to discover it doesn't perform the simple task of
saving what you have written as well as the classic did.
4. With the exception of what I create in my E-Mail folders,
everything I do is on a compact flash or storage card, and I'd
like to know why a machine reset reformats those cards or
external storage devices?
Thank you for any information you can provide on this subject.
Sammie Clay
