So, you mean Ups just takes the package without any special label, or without it being weighed or anything? SHOULD I ever need to send mine back, and since I work during the UPS pick up hours, I would need to leave my BN at the apartment complex leasing office. But, if memory serves, they told me once at the leasing office they would need to have the proper UPS label before it could be left there. So, does this RMA number take care of that situation?

They do have to go to Canada. The way it works is that Humanware
sends UPS
to your home to pick up the unit, which you have all boxed up,
with
Humanware and your RMA number on the box. They've made all the
arrangements
with UPS so that it will go through Customs. They pay for the
shipping to
get it there, and then you pay for the return shipping. Someone
calls you
when it's ready to come back, or when they want to talk to you
about it, and
they give you the charges then.

I like the idea of UPS coming to my house, although there were
some glitches
with that. I called Humanware on Tuesday to make arrangements to
send my
BrailleNote in and get an RMA number. It was originally going to
go out on
Wednesday, but I asked the Humanware person if UPS would pick it
up from the
porch, since we'd be at work. He said they'd do three tries to
have someone
home when they came. Since I was going to be off Friday, we
switched the
day to Friday; but no one apparently told UPS that, 'cause the
guy came
Wednesday evening. He said it was no problem, that he'd come
Thursday, and
it would be after 5:00. I asked him what would happen if we
weren't there,
if we could just leave the package out. He said yes, that he'd
take it and
leave us a receipt. So apparently the communication between
Humanware and
UPS isn't perfect, and neither is Humanware's understanding about
leaving
the BrailleNote on the porch to be picked up. Stilll, I'm glad
we were
there when the UPS guy came, as I would have been nervous about
leaving my
BN out on the porch all day.

So, is it really taking 6 to 8 weeks for a BN to be serviced
these days?
Well, grin, unless it is a BNPK being sent away, and I've heard
about
those taking up to three months to be fixed. But, actually,
isn't 2 or 3
weeks kind of a long time just for a battery replacement?

Also, I heard folks talking on the list a while back about those
of us in
the United States now having to send our units to Canada for
repair type
work. I had actually forgotten about that HW change, so had to
go to the
web site to refresh my memory. So, how does that work, meaning
for folks
in the States to ship their BN to Canada? I saw that the
article on the
HW site talked about the repair address being a United States
one. So, do
we just ship to that address and don't really notice much
difference?

Other than that initial battery problem some of the mPower units
had a few
years ago, I've not sent my unit back for anything else. But,
when I sent
it back that time, it was gone less than a week. True, that was
a design
issue that HW needed to fix, but they moved things quite quickly
then to
get the BN back to me.
