hello kitt,
i have never changed the burrs, and i don't think i have grind over 150
kilo's yet, but i think i am going to get new burrs anyway. it is just
another possibility that i need to check. thanks for pointing it out.
and if it doesn't help, i have a set of spare burrs that i am going to
need some day.
i've checked ebay, looks like there are two mini types, the mini 'e' has
a different size (64mm) burrs than the normal (58mm). i checked with the
mazzer site and asked the seller for confirmation. mine is called mazzer
mini man.
about the cleaning, you might have read my post to barry. i did an
extensive cleaning, taking the screen of and soaking screen +
portafilter + basket in a solution, and cleaning the grouphead with a
cloth with the same solution. lots of flushing. i always clean
everything after each shot: flush, wipe the screen and the insides
clean, clean the basket and portafilter with water, and flush again with
the cleaned basket and portafilter in place until the water stream is
completely clear.
have a great day,
guido.
Glad to know it is a Mazzer. A few years = Yes, change burrs. When
did you last change? If you have to order, be sure to get the right
burrs .... I seem to recall there are several different designs for
the SJ diameter, I do not recall if that is true for the original
Mini .? But the electronic Mini needs a special burr. buy Mazzer
brand. Might as well buy two sets ... Change every 150 kilos = No
worries. Must change by 300 kilos.
There in no practical way you can check ... When your technique is
channeling free, then the appearance of channeling is your clue.

hello kitt,
just a quick response to two question marks in your last post.
i have a mazzer mini for a few years, and i do employ the weiss
distribution technique since a couple of months.
do you think the mazzer burrs could be blunt enough for the brewtus
to produce flaws, while the gaggia is more forgiving in this
aspect? and if that's the case, is there a good way to check myself
if the burrs are still as sharp as they should be?
all the best, guido.
