It's all good Tony, I was actually surprised, I almost felt attacked over my suggestion by some. I was not trying to insult the rotary unit to those that have them. If it suited my needs I would of purchased that unit. My main reason on suggesting the vibration unit was your major concern about stretching the budget with the vibration vs adding for the rotary unit. I did mention you could use a hose and a bucket with the rotary pump but loose manual pre-infusion. An it might be rare but given enough time and some slips someone somewhere will let a rotary unit run dry using a jug of water. You know, a dinner party wine has been flowing all having a good time and you start to pull shots after dinner. Could be easy to forget the jug ;-)
However If you do have a RO unit already that eliminates a major additional cost with the rotary unit. With all I have read and more importantly, the place I purchased my unit from clearly told me that I would not produce better coffee with the rotary unit. An that the volume of sound was not allot more. I was told the biggest advantage to the rotary unit was plumbing in and allows higher volume of use. So if you have that easy a time to plumb it in, the added advantage of just that is worth consideration. It is a bit of a pain to always fill the unit and empty the tray (but I really had no way to easily, and reasonably plumb a unit in). When I listen to that youtube link I sent you I noticed one major difference between that rotary unit and mine. The sound level stayed constant with the rotary unit and on my vibration unit as the pressure went up the sound died down (it started a bit louder.) But again, the steaming will be louder on both units. An to be honest if your are not steaming with it at all the unit is to be honest a waste of money. The only reason for a double boiler unit is simple fast turn from pulling shots to steaming milk. An by tradition milk drinks are had before 10:00 am, straight espresso after. What ever way you choose this I can promise you. These darn units make very consistent and very good espresso. http://www.home-barista.com/espresso-machines/post-pic-of-your-home-espresso-setup-t5194-1550.html#p225289 A shot of my unit not long after setting it up.
