Thanks for the cool info about your part of the world! It looks like your town
is in the plains, surrounded by mountains, yes? I imagine it is pretty there.

If my memory is right, the Brewtus was developed in a partnership between
Expobar and Whole Latte Love—and I think WLL remains the exclusive US
distributor. So I think this is the reason why no one else carries it here.
I’m sure one of the other forum members will jump in here and correct me if my
memory is wrong.

The Alex Duetto is also a nice machine; I love the case on it and the dual
water options, etc. As you said, the Brewtus is not the most beautiful machine
out there, but also not ugly. It is something of a workhorse.

I do not know how often PID controllers fail on the Brewtus. I upgraded mine
to the PID from WLL about 5-6 years ago and have not had even one error so far.
My Giemme controller did finally fail this year (this is the black box that
has all the wires and controls where power goes when the PID or whatever tells
it to send electricity). One of the mechanical switches on the giemme burned
out finally. My machine is on a timer and is on from about 5AM to about 8PM
every day. Also, the PID has an electronic relay that sits on the bottom of
the machine, so I wonder if your statement about it being up high is only
partly true. Perhaps the heat-sensitive bits are in the part that’s on the
floor of the case. I really don’t know. Also, the display for the PID isn’t
really near a boiler—it’s in front of and above the pump or the water reservoir.

As to the switch that shuts off the machine when water is low—you can weight
the tank but you don’t want to disable the switch. If it runs out when you’re
not there, it will run the pump and possibly elements dry, and can destroy
both. So I’d maybe add weight so that it is 1/4 empty when it shuts off. Even
easier, you can just stretch the spring under the metal plate that the tank
sits on. Just be sure to test it out...

Best,
bmc
