I guess we have a great difference in styles, then. If I get something
off-list, I usually try to at least acknowledge that I received it
fairly promptly. If it's something that I don't have time to deal with
immediately, I reply with a quick note saying I'll get back to the
person as soon as I can; if it's something administrative, I deal with
it as quickly as possible, sending a message saying "I'm working on it"
and then a follow-up to let the person know once I get a confirmation
message indicating that my command to the listserver has been taken care
of. If it's something other than just a simple request for help, I at
least do *something* before I go on to even *read* any more listmail.
Any time someone mails me off-list, I figure it's pretty important to
them, and that the least I can do is give them the courtesy of
acknowledgement. But maybe that's just me.
