O.k., so "balance" as accusing the Republicans of haivng accomplished not
one meaningful thing during the 20th Century, and of claiming that the
Democrats have been responsible for essentially every positive American
development during the 20th Century?
Sure, you gave a speech to the Libertarians once - but that hardly implies
a balanced viewpoint between
Republicans and Democrats. It merely means that you a Libertarian-leaning
Democrat. And sure, you admire one Republican from the 1960's, and one
Republican from today. That is like Rush Limbaugh saying that he is
"balanced" because he admires John F. Kennedy's calls for tax cuts to
revive the economy, and because he admires Joe Leiberman's aggressive
stance in the War on Terror. To me, at least, that is a pretty shaky
foundation on which to build the claim of "balance."
Again, I propose a simple test - let us judge your balance by your own
recorded statements on this List. Let us examine your statements on
Republicans and Democrats, assess them as either "postive" or "negative",
and then see if there is any "balance" in the final tally.
Do you seriously wish to doubt the results? Alternatively, if you do not
wish to doubt the resutls, do you wish to seriously argue as to why the
test is flawed - and why your remarks to this List are not an accurate
measure of your "balance"?
Quite simply, Dr. Brin, I am honest enough to admit that I agree with
President Bush on most things. It seems to me that you agree with
President Clinton on most things. In fact, you statements seem to
strongly reflect the positions of a Bill Clinton/Tony Blair "New Democrat."
I don't know why you see the need to hold to this fiction that you are
somehow "balanced" between Democrats and Republicans, despite the evidence
of your proceedings on this List - when you have nary a positive word to
say about Republicans, and indeed regularly spew overheated vitriol against
the Republicans.
